The Finance Apprentice Assistant will be a key member of the Greater Manchester NHS Wigan Locality Finance Team.
The Finance Apprentice Assistant will assist with overseeing the finances for Wigan Locality. The Assistant will support in the processing of invoices for Individual Care, support with the monthly financial reporting and ledger reconciliation.
The post holder will provide comprehensive financial management support and advice to Budget Holders.
The post holder will be responsible for the maintenance of the general ledger and budgetary control system which are used in the production of monthly financial statements.
The post-holder will be expected to work independently towards tight deadlines and use their own initiative within their own sphere of work.
The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all finance policies and procedures. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of finance procedures.
Responsible for processing invoices for Individual Care via the oracle ledger system.
Prepare monthly management accounts and budget information.
Will work with all members of the finance team to improve and maintain robust financial processes.
Liaise with Budget Holders and External Providers
Produce accurate, timely and appropriate monthly financial and performance management information. This will involve the collection, collation, and processing of complex data from a variety of sources.
Calculate accruals, prepayments, and adjustments to be reflected in the monthly management accounts and maintain a clear audit trail.
Assist in year-end financial projections to support decision making
Assist with the production of the statutory annual accounts including the provision of information and conducting various end-of-year tasks.

This will be delivered in neighbourhood, place, combinations of places and GM system.
Job Purpose
Working in a financial environment, supporting the finance team, to ensure an efficient and effective service is provided to budget holders.
Key Working Relationships and Communication
Provide information to budget holders or colleagues. This may be delegated from a senior colleague or requested directly.
Attend budget/contract meetings with budget holders/managers and potentially providers and provide advice in line with NHS GM ICB procedures.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
Ensure information being analysed/input to database is accurate.
Use judgement when to refer to higher authority.
Provide the management accountants with accurate information so that they can effectively report to their budget holders.
Under supervision, the post holder will have responsibility for monitoring actual performance against some budgets and reporting the information to managers, and lead on some project work.
Maintain spreadsheets monthly without supervision.
Provide detailed information relating to specific projects for the completion of annual financial returns.
Run statutory returns as required to support BI Team.
Planning and Organising
Organise own workload ensuring month end/year end deadlines are met and give accurate estimates of when delegated tasks will be completed.
The post holder will be delegated work therefore the ability to prioritise is essential.
Strategy/Policy/Service Development and Implementation
Proposes changes to own function and making recommendations for other service delivery.
Challenge and develop current policies, procedures to improve financial systems and processes.
Maintain good knowledge of emerging policies and guidance from NHS government departments.
Responsibilities for physical and financial resources
Maintain spreadsheets and reconciliations to the general ledger.
Contribute to the budget setting process.
Agreement of balance process.
Accurately coding of invoices along with liaising with providers.

Demonstrate tasks to colleagues.

Carry out timely and accurate financial analysis and reporting on budgets and contracts.

Work within policies and procedures.
Research, Development and Audit
Responsibility to be well informed as to current developments, both within Finance and wider NHS policy issues.
