Lancing College has developed an ambitious career development programme over the last seven years called ‘My Future’. This is constantly evolving due to changes in the external context, labour market information and through research with students and parents. There is a strong team of four leaders across the College who form a core team leading development and delivery of the programme to students.
We are now seeking a dedicated Careers Advisor and Co-ordinator to assist in the co-ordination of this important programme, working alongside the core team of: Exec. Director External Relations, Deputy Head (Academic), Head of PSHE and Head of Sixth Form.
This is a term-time only position + 4 weeks (to be agreed with INSET).
**Our Foundational Approach**
- Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is important and is embedded into Life at Lancing.
- It encompasses the five-year progression through to pupils becoming alumni (OLs).
- Every pupil a different “journey” - this is a tailored approach; our aim is for all pupils to:
- Understand and engage in the world of work
- Have the ability to explore different career options
- Have the awareness of the different routes to careers
- Have the skills, resilience and adaptability to thrive independently
- To do this we work with pupils in groups and individually and aim to build employability and life skills alongside aspirations for Higher Education and other routes.
- Activities are supported across the College and beyond.
- We use evidence to inform the programme.
**The Role**:
- To assist the Exec Director of External Relations, The Deputy Head (Academic) and the wider careers ’My Future’ core team in resourcing and curating a cohesive and comprehensive careers education programme.
- To provide high-quality CEIAG to students across the age range of the school via 1:1 meetings, group sessions and events.
- Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders including: parents, OLs, teaching staff, Foundation office, as well as external experts; regarding CEAIG provision.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- The Career Advisor will oversee a programme of study that focuses on careers guidance for all pupils from Year 9 to Year 13. The current aim is:
- Follow the guidelines and standards as set out by the eight Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance.
- Work with the core ‘My Future’ team to develop and deliver the current programme in an effective manner.
- Take a lead in the planning, promotion, resourcing and delivery of the wide range of Careers events across all year groups.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective provision, promotion, resourcing and delivery of Careers and Progression events, talks and workshops.
- Play a key role in planning and delivering talks to parents and pupils as required.
- To use School ICT systems and third-party software (Morrisby/Unifrog) to inform and record guidance information and resources for staff and pupils.
- Deliver training to colleagues on matters relating to CEIAG as required.
- Maintain own professional expertise through participation and engagement in CPD.
- Complete administrative tasks relevant to the role such as registers of guests, attendance records, central records of guidance.
- Close collaboration with wider Careers team and Foundation office regarding lecture programme, speakers, UCAS and OL networks.
- Develop a programme of outside speakers and former pupils to talk to current students about potential employment (e.g. through guru lectures and careers lunch clubs)
- Conduct research, impact assessments and provide statistics as required to support evaluation and improvements in the programme.
- Update staff as necessary regarding changes and developments in Careers Education, including delivering INSET training and offering advice for individuals as necessary.
- Keeping up-to-date knowledge of admissions procedures and current admissions trends (for universities, further educational colleges, and degree apprenticeships), and to make any other links which may be useful.
**Success in the role will be measured by**:
- Positive engagement with staff internally.
- Increasing parent and OL engagement.
- Feedback from students on Careers activities.
Duties, responsibilities, and accountabilities may vary over time at the discretion of the College. The post holder will primarily work on their own initiative within the framework of the Job Description, in conjunction with input from the Executive Director of External Relations and Deputy Head (Academic) regarding College needs.

Qualifications:
- Have, or be working towards, a level 6 or above qualification in Career Guidance and Development.
- Honours degree or equivalent.
- Educated to minimum GCSE standard
