**Job overview**:
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 2 Healthcare Assistant in the busy expanding Ophthalmology department within the Northern Care Alliance.

We are a close multi-disciplinary team, comprising nurses, Ophthalmic technicians, HCAs, clerical and medical staff who work together to service a large catchment area for ophthalmic services. The department is busy and we are expanding to 7 day working from April next year.

**Main duties of the job**:
Your role will involve, supporting the nursing team, performing visual acuity measurements, physiological measurement, using ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, using electronic patient records, stock ordering, plus general HCA duties.

You will work within an established multidisciplinary team based in Ophthalmic outpatients.

- Literacy: in order to read and understand written instructions and documents
- Be able to organise own workload to be able to work unsupervised and use own initiative
- Interpersonal: in order to communicate effectively with other staff, patients and relatives, both face to face and on the telephone
- To demonstrate an understanding of the importance of team working and the ability of working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Have sufficient manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and navigate a mouse
- Basic Knowledge of the structure of the eye with a willingness to study to improve knowledge

**Desirable criteria**:

- Venepuncture skills or willingness to learn
