If you are enthusiastic, motivated, and ready for a challenge as well as possess excellent communication skills with the ability to de-escalate crisis situations, then we want you in our team.
We, at Night Assessment Team, are looking for dedicated nurses, with a passion for learning, to make a real difference to people experiencing mental health crisis during Out of Hours. The core function of night assessment team is to carry out high quality urgent and emergency assessments and reviews of patients presenting to the out of hours service and provide robust clinical leadership overnight to multi-disciplinary ward-based staff within the Mental Health Directorate (excluding inpatient wards within the Specialist Services).
This role sits within the Mental Health Urgent Care Pathway and as such the night team clinicians will be required at times to rotate into other services within the pathway such as Police ‘Street’ Triage, South Central Ambulance Services Triage and EDPS
This is a great opportunity for a mental health practitioner who wants to use de-escalation skills, assessment skills and evidence based clinical decision-making skills to make a positive impact to ensure that, people experiencing a mental health crisis get the help they need as well as supporting their relatives and their loved ones. This includes onward referrals and signposting of patients / carers to appropriate services which can meet their needs and managing safety planning with patients who may have suicidal ideation.
There is a scope for learning opportunities to enhance your skills and build your confidence to deal with crisis calls, interventions and face to face assessment. However, while on-duty overnight the Night Assessment Team utilise the available clinical leadership structures out of hours (OOH) for support including Higher Trainees (SpRs), Consultant Psychiatrists and Head On-Call. The Night Team will adhere to escalation processes for complex & high-risk situation management and incident response/management.
