London, United Kingdom King's College London Full time

Job description

We are seeking a highly organised, proactive individual to provide coordination and qualitative research support to MedTech evaluation trials run by King’s Technology Evaluation Centre (KiTEC).

The post-holder will work closely with the KiTEC team and a senior qualitative researcher to provide (i) day-to-day coordination and research management of an allocated portfolio of real-world AI evaluation trials and (ii) qualitative research support into AI acceptability for the PROSAIC-DS study in particular.

(i) The post-holder will work closely with the KiTEC team and other relevant staff to provide research governance, ensuring studies meet all regulatory requirements and monitor compliance with trial protocols; liaise with participating NHS sites to ensure data collection and processing is compliant and completed within the agreed timeline; to develop and maintain SOPs and trial documentation; and to prepare and submit amendments for sponsor and ethical approvals and NHS permissions. The post-holder will act as first point of contact for NHS sites participating ongoing real-world AI evaluation trials commissioned by the AI in Health and Care Award.

(ii) The post-holder will work closely with Dr. Mandeep Sekhon, a senior qualitative researcher with expertise in the assessment of acceptability across a range of healthcare services/ interventions, on the PROSAIC-DS Study to investigate the acceptability of the AI technology among patients and staff. The post-holder will be familiar with qualitative data capture methods including focus groups and semi-structured interviews and will use these methods to explore patient and staff views about the use of AI technology to support clinical decisions in prostate cancer.

The post would suit an experienced research coordinator and qualitative researcher (data collection, analysis) with knowledge of and/or an interest in MedTech.

KiTEC and the AI in Health and Care Award

The AI Award is a £250 million investment which sits within NHSX AI Lab, in partnership with the Accelerated Access Collaborative (AAC) at NHS England and NHS Improvement. The fund runs a series of competitive process to identify global market-ready AI solutions and support implementation with a financial commitment to the supplier, provider and commissioning bodies. KiTEC was commissioned as a Technology Specific Evaluation Team (TSET) to evaluate three selected technologies over a period of three years.

PROSAIC-DS Study

Around 375,000 cancers are diagnosed in the UK annually. Treating cancer quickly and correctly saves lives. As the number of different cancer treatment options and our scientific understanding continue to grow rapidly, it can be difficult for clinicians to keep up-to-date with best practice, causing unjustified variations in the quality of care and clinical outcomes for patients.

Deontics Ltd has a CE marked clinical decision support system (“CDSS”) which uses AI to integrate individual patient data and preferences with evidence-based clinical guidelines, to dynamically and transparently generate best-practice, individualised treatment recommendations which can help determine treatment. This study, lead by Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust and Kings College London, partners with Deontics Ltd to design and implement “PROSAIC-DS” - a CDSS for the prostate cancer treatment pathway. This study aims to capture the clinical effectiveness and potential cost-savings that PROSAIC-DS creates by investigating how PROSAIC-DS may assist clinicians and MDTMs in treatment decisions for patients with prostate cancer.

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for two years
