The Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is continuously expanding, bringing new challenges, and exciting changes to the programme. The Bowel Cancer Screening programme has fully age extended and now currently invites men and women aged 50-74 to complete an at home FIT test kit (Faecal immunochemical test kit), which if positive invites them to attend for further diagnostic tests as well as incorporating surveillance and Lynch syndrome patients.

This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced Specialist Screening Practitioners (SSPs) providing support in all aspects of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. The ability to be flexible & organised in the workplace with a passion for delivering a quality and successful service is essential. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required to maintain and develop relationships with a wide range of internal and external contacts

You will be supported by Induction, training and ongoing development. You will have regular supervision, and an annual appraisal with learning opportunities.

The successful applicant will be expected to complete the Liverpool John Moore’s Screening Practitioner's course within the first 9 months of coming into post - this is a mandatory requirement for the role and includes a residential element.

The hours of work are 37.5 per week, worked over 4 days and will include evening and weekend working.

The Harrogate, Leeds and York Bowel Cancer Screening Programme was launched on 15th June 2009, and is the 8th largest screening centre in England (out of 62) and the 2nd largest in the North East Hub region and currently serving a population of 1.4 million.

We are a busy service and the post holder will be expected to work on his/her own initiative and as a part of a team.

The post holder is expected to adhere to Trust policies and procedures and relevant legislation including the requirements of any professional bodies and to attend mandatory training as identified by the Trust.

There is a mandatory requirement for the post holder to complete the Liverpool John Moore's University course (LJMU) Specialist Screening Practitioner model. This will be fully funded by the trust, if you were to resign from the post within a year of passing this course, you would be required to refund the full cost of the course. Choice course levels are Degree level and Masters level.
