Assistant Principal
The Role
We are looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic and creative Interim Assistant Principal. You will work with the
Executive Principal and Head of School to ensure that an engaging and person-centred curriculum is translated into
effective teaching, learning and assessment practice. You will join the senior leadership team and be fully involved in
the strategic leadership and daily management of the school. You will work with the leadership team to ensure the
successful delivery of the vision, ethos, aims and objectives of the academy.
Venture Academy is a small special needs school for pupils aged 9 to 16 with a diagnosis of social, emotional and
mental health (SEMH) and/or Autism. Venture academy has incredibly passionate staff who all want the best for our
children and young people.
We currently have a senior leadership team of Executive Principal, Head of School, Assistant Principal (Pastoral) and
School Business Manager. As Assistant Principal you will join the senior leadership team and be fully involved in the
strategic leadership and daily management of the school through a wide-ranging awareness and contact with staff, the
students and their families/carers. With a passion for working with students with SEN and their families, you will
embrace coaching approaches as essential, be creative and flexible and, as with all staff, be non-judgmental,
unconditionally accepting and highly resilient.
At Venture Academy we want our pupils to do their best to be “Ready, Respectful and Safe” (Paul Dix). We are
committed to compassionate teaching principles, coupled with high expectations for every child. We are nonjudgemental
and have unconditional positive regard for young people and their families. We believe that you ‘get more
of what you focus on’ so we always build on positives, reward and reinforce positive behaviour. We expect all staff in
all roles to be actively involved in nurturing positive relationships with each other, our pupils and their families.
Our school delivers a highly personalised and holistic curriculum to students with autism and SEMH needs. Each
class is supported by a Class Teacher, TA and HLTA during tutor times, with some classes and individual students
having extra TA support. In lesson time the class TA will always be on hand for support, with a class teacher and
8 students, but in some classes this can be slightly higher where needs allow. The Academy is committed to the
Professional Development of all and invests in training from online, through to face to face and leadership
qualifications.
You will have Qualified Teacher Status, a solid record of effective and/or highly effective teaching, experience of
working with students with SEMH as well as a proven track record of implementing a person-centred curriculum and
driving high standards of teaching and learning. It is also essential that you are solution focussed, resilient and a team
player.
Benefits In return
We can offer you a competitive salary, teachers pension scheme if you are already enrolled, an Employee Assistance
Programme to support your health and wellbeing and full induction, training and career opportunities. We also offer
enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave schemes (once you have a year’s service with us),
annual flu vaccinations and a cycle to work scheme alongside our wellbeing offer through ‘Lifeworks’ our employee
assistance provider.
