The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical care for the patients on Holly Ward. The unit is an organic ward, with female patients suffering from disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. It is a 15 bedded unit. Additionally, the post-holder will be responsible for supporting and contributing to the development of the broader Older Adult inpatient team. The post holder will work with other medical colleagues, both within GMMH NHS FT and neighbouring acute services. Additional contact may involve the Home Base Treatment Team, Care Coordinators from the Community Mental Health Teams, Acute Services, and respective professionals to facilitate optimal admission and discharge arrangements.

The post holder will have a psychiatric core trainee (or equivalent) and a middle grade. At present there is a locum Specialty Doctor in post, with a substantive Doctor due to start later this year to support the unit. The post holder may also attract a higher trainee depending on the trainer’s qualifications.

The post holder will be expected to be Section 12 approved and an Approved Clinician. They will be expected to become involved in Mental Health Act work as required including relevant meetings and hearings as part of the expectation for an Approved Clinician. Additional clinical activity involves CPAs and other clinically relevant meetings outside MDTs.

The post holder will be encouraged to attend the weekly MRCPsych teaching course at least 4 times a year. This is the weekly academic course for trainees which constitutes of a case conference, journal club, and expert teaching.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to clinical audit and will be able to participate in research.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the senior on-call rota pro rata, which at present is 1 in 12 (please check). This will be on the third tier of on-call. The second tier involves doctors who are Section 12 approved. The on call covers Older Adults for Greater Manchester.

The on call attracts a Category A payment. In view of the very low frequency by which the consultant is contacted and the very rare need to visit the hospital out of hours this has not required arrangements for time-in-lieu.
