The Greater Manchester Electrochemical Hydrogen Cluster (GMECH) brings together world leading research facilities and expertise to stimulate new investment in research and development (R&D) to address the **_materials challenges and measurement problems that are holding back innovation in Hydrogen, Fuel Cell technology, and Electrolyser_** value chains. In doing so, it supports the UK Hydrogen Strategy and GM's ambition for carbon neutrality by 2038.

Working with our partners (The National Physical Laboratories (NPL), The University of Manchester, and The Henry Royce Institute), Manchester Metropolitan University are recruiting at **_Postdoctoral Research Associate level_** (2 posts) and at **_Research Fellow level _**(2 posts) to deliver the R&D strand that forms the backbone of the £6M GMECH network.

The GMECH team will be undertaking a series of projects with industrial collaborators in the areas of:

- fuel cell and electrolyser device assembly and testing of cell components;
- component fabrication and characterisation;
- cell and stack characterisation and analysis of performance and durability data;
- smart connectivity, including real-time data acquisition and analytics.

The MFCIC is home to electrochemists, materials scientists and engineers who use state-of-the-art electrochemical techniques to investigate materials and diagnostic tools for energy conversion and storage technologies. We develop, characterise, optimise and test materials and devices for energy conversion and storage technologies. Our facilities include a wide range of electrochemical testing capabilities spanning low current potentiostats for half-cell electrochemical measurements to a kW scale fuel cell test stand. The Surface Engineering Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art thin film deposition systems (magnetron sputtering), ranging from lab-scale to pilot production scale. We undertake the development of new functional films, characterisation of film properties and the optimisation of deposition processes.
