**Job Summary**
At GCHQ, we unlock the complex world of data and communications to keep the UK and its citizens safe, both in the real world and online. Working closely with our British Intelligence partners in MI5 and MI6, we protect the UK from threats including serious organised crime, terrorism, and cyber-attacks. A role in GCHQ means you’ll have varied and fascinating work in a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), part of GCHQ, is the UK Government’s lead authority on cyber security. The organisation is at the heart of the Government’s cyber security strategy and has the aim of making the UK the safest place to live and work online.
The Government Sector Team, part of the NCSC National Resilience Directorate, is looking for a committed and enthusiastic cyber security advisor to work on some of the most significant cyber security issues that the UK Government and Public Sector face. The successful applicant will work within our existing team of skilled cyber security consultants and risk advisors. This role will focus on protecting the UK’s democratic processes, institutions, and society from cyber security threats.
The successful individual will support relationships and insights with customers across the UK’s democratic processes, institutions, and society; and deliver NCSC support towards their cyber security needs. This will include supporting the rollout of new services to protect these processes and institutions. The role is not just about making systems as secure as possible - it is about making security effective, supporting organisations and individuals to help them achieve their overall business aims.
The ability to work with others across NCSC is an essential element of the role. You will work with colleagues from across the Resilience Directorate, with deep technical specialists, incident management experts and more to ensure we deliver practical advice which helps our customers. Externally you will support relationships with our key partners in Government, understanding their needs and influencing their direction to achieve positive cyber security outcomes.
- Support the development and implementation of high quality strategies, plans and services to improve the cyber resilience of the UK’s democratic processes, institutions and society.
- Support great relationships within customer departments and organisations. You’ll understand the key objectives and direction of the organisation and will understand how the key NCSC service offerings can help them.
- Help tackle cross cutting and shared challenges that aligns with and supports other parts of the NCSC and key stakeholder Departments.
- Bring internal and external stakeholders together to address cyber security challenges.
- Represent NCSC across Government in stakeholder meetings.
- Capture and use customer insights to improve delivery on an ongoing basis
- Help to create an inclusive environment that supports high performance and where all team members feel fully supported and engaged at work.
**Person Specification**
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. Different perspectives and experiences add to our overall capability and we welcome applicants from different backgrounds. Experience in representative and/or policy roles would be welcome including experience of service development, managing external relationships, and understanding customer needs. You will be working in a team who are committed, politically savvy and come from a variety of backgrounds.
Cyber security experience is ideal, but if you have a different background with transferable skills and a genuine interest in this domain, we will provide extensive cyber security training and development opportunities. We will provide support for skills in Information Assurance risk assessment & management, and Applied Technical Security if you do not already have these assessed skills.
