Carpenter/joiner

**Who are we looking for?**

We are looking for a carpenter/joiner with at least two years of professional experience to become part of our full-time team. This role suits someone who has a high attention to detail, enjoys working with a diverse team and an interest in sustainable construction practices using locally sourced materials.

**What projects will you work on?**

We are working on a wide range of projects from first fix construction to finishing work. The jobs will range from renovations and repairs inside residential properties to work on large scale agricultural buildings. Anything from new kitchen installations to the construction of complete timber frame buildings. You'd be working alongside a small team on the farm with a full time apprentice. We have a fully equipped large scale commercial workshop on the farm with panel saw, table/rip saw, spindle moulder, planer/thicknesser, chop saw and a wide range of hand tools as well as a metal shop. We work with a large amount of home-grown timber that is sustainably harvested and processed on site as well as bought in conventional construction timber.

**Role Responsibilities**
- Co-management and execution of all carpentry/joinery projects
- Co-development of overall construction plans and drawings
- Liasing with other tradesmen regarding planning and execution of projects
- Material stock management
- Hardware stock management
- Raw timber selection and processing
- Workshop organisation and management
- Servicing and record-keeping of workshop machinery and tools
- Management and training of apprentices and other labourers
- Research and development of sustainable building materials and practices

**Work Schedule**

This role would mainly follow a Monday to Friday, 08:00-17:00 schedule (includes a 1 hour paid lunch break with lunch provided each day). This schedule may vary depending on project deadlines but we will ensure that you work no more than 45 hours per week on average across each month. Any change to the schedule will be mutually agreed with sufficient notice.

**Who you’ll work with**

You’ll be working alongside fifteen other people who also work on the farm day-to-day, all of whom are passionate about being involved in a sustainable farming system in an enjoyable and fulfilling working environment. You will work directly alongside Angus, one of the directors of the business. Angus will manage all construction projects and set your annual/monthly/weekly work schedule. You will manage a small team of labourers.

**Required Skills/Qualifications**
- Experienced in the use of workshop machinery/power tools
- Experienced in first and second fix carpentry/joinery
- Experienced in processing homegrown timber
- Experienced in general power tool operation and maintenance
- Highly organised and time efficient
- Experienced in planning and working to budgets
- Experienced in managing a team and apprentices
- Confident and flexible at working solo or with a team
- Good ability to follow directions and read plans/drawings
- Full UK driving licence

**Desirable Skills/Qualifications**
- Experience/interest in sustainable material sourcing and building practices
- Experience/knowledge of other trades (electrical, plumbing etc.)
- Experienced/qualified in using various plant machinery (telehandlers, forklift etc.)
- Experienced/qualified in the use of a chainsaw
- Experience/interest in architecture and design
- General farm operation/maintenance experience
