World class asset management. That’s our aspiration. That’s the journey we’re on in Water Land and Biodiversity (WLB) within the Environment Agency. We have a wide variety of WLB assets across Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire Area, including pumping stations, weirs, raingauges and boreholes, all of which help us monitor and manage water for the benefit of people and wildlife. Knowing the condition of our assets is hugely important and underpins our risk based approached to asset management.
- We are looking for an Asset Management Assistant to be part of this journey. Your role will involve field and desk-based activities, including:
- Collating accurate information on WLB assets outside on the ground, while working alone.
- Recording accurate information on the asset management database.
- Carrying out a programme of visual inspection of the assets to establish their condition, and supporting the public safety inspection programme.
- Identifying issues and liaising with colleagues to ensure works are identified to correct defects.
- Quality checking, processing and improving information in the asset management database.

The team
- Reporting to the WLB Asset Management Team Leader, you will work with a range of colleagues from asset management both in Area and National, including teams such as Hydrometry and Telemetry, Groundwater and Contaminated Land, Hydrology, Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology. There may be a need for joined up working with colleagues from other business functions. You will form part of a national community of practice for asset management.

Experience/skills required
- The ability to manage a varied workload is essential. Experience in asset management, direct involvement in projects or in the delivery of asset maintenance work is an advantage but not essential.
- The following experiences are beneficial:
- Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers
- Deliver work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information
- Ability to collate and interpret different sources of data in an accurate and efficient manner.
- Working under own initiative and as part of a team to make decisions and achieve planned outcomes
- Good organisational skills
- Good IT skills (e.g. Excel)

You must be able to swim and be confident around water.
- A full UK driving licence is required for this role.
