London, United Kingdom The Institute of Ismaili Studies Full time

Research Associate in Ismaili Studies (South Asia focus)
Salary c. £38,000 - £42,000 (according to experience)

Located at King’s Cross in central London but working globally, The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) undertakes research, produces publications and runs educational programmes that promote scholarship in previously marginalised areas of the study of Islam. Our publishing and postgraduate study programmes encourage a perspective that is not confined to the theological and religious heritage of Islam but that seeks to explore the relationship of religious ideas to broader dimensions of society and culture.

The IIS, established in 1977, is a registered charity and works on a highly interdisciplinary basis, partnering with several institutions of learning, including SOAS, University of London, and the Institute of Education, University College London.

You will be an outstanding scholar with a doctorate in the field of Islam and a proven track record of publications and teaching. You will be a competent user of one of the South Asian languages, preferably Gujarati, Hindi or Marathi. Thorough knowledge of the current state of the field of Ismaili studies and related aspects of Shi’i and Ismaili history and thought as well as the ability to read Khojki, will be an added advantage.

You will deliver interdisciplinary and impactful research contributing to the Institute’s mission of remaining a leading institution of academic excellence in the field of Ismaili Studies.

We offer a friendly working environment with a benefits package that includes a non-contributory pension scheme, season ticket loan and discounted gym membership. Please note that since the UK is no longer part of the European Union, applicants from other European countries need a Skilled Worker Visa to work in the UK.
