Post Doctoral Research Assistant Materials Chemistry
1 week ago
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher to join a project at the forefront of research in thermoelectric materials for waste-heat recovery.
The overarching aim of this project, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, is to transform understanding of thermal conduction in copper-containing chalcogenides with high thermoelectric performance. The project seeks to investigate the structure and properties of copper-containing minerals to understand the relationship between copper bonding, ultralow thermal conduction and thermoelectric performance.
The successful applicant will join the Solid-State Chemistry Group at the Department of Chemistry, under the supervision of Dr Paz Vaqueiro and Prof Anthony Powell, and work closely with Dr David Voneshen, at the ISIS Facility (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory). The postdoctoral research associate will be responsible for the synthesis of materials, for the structural characterization of these materials using powder X-ray and neutron diffraction, and for the investigation of their physical properties, including both the measurement and interpretation of data.
This is a full-time, fixed-term Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position for 7 months. You will hold, or be near the completion of, a PhD in Chemistry, Physics or a related discipline, and have relevant experience in solid-state and/or materials science. You will have an excellent publication track record and be strongly motivated with good organisational, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills. You must be able to work both independently and part of a research team.
