This program is designed for students currently pursuing an associate or technical degree, who have completed a portion of their curriculum, and will be completing their program after the internship experience. It is not designed for graduates.
Job Description:
(3) 3-month positions (May 2025 through August 2025)
(1) 8-month position (May 2025 through December 2026)
Duties/Tasks:
Duties at the surface coal mine will be wide and varied, based on needs of the operation. These duties may include all or some of the following:
- Performing safety inspections and corrections.
- Performing mechanical work on heavy equipment and small diesel engines.
- Removing and installing engines and components.
- Assembling and disassembling engines, brake adjustments, repair clutches and wheel bearings.
- Performing general repairs on trucks, tractors and light vehicles.
- Performing engine tune ups and field work.
- Servicing, operating and testing large equipment. Cleaning the shop.
- Performing job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The successful applicant will be support as a diesel / auto mechanic on scrapers, blades, dozers, haul trucks, miscellaneous small equipment and light vehicles. Applicants need to have a valid driver’s license, be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and will work rotating shifts.
Educational Requirements:
Enrolled in accredited diesel mechanic / automotive program and in good academic standing.
