Due to age extension and changes within the team an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Somerset Bowel Cancer Screening Programme as a Specialist Screening Practitioner on a permanent contract. You will be joining a team of five Specialist Screening Practitioners covering the Somerset population. You will be required to travel off site to cover Yeovil when required. This is a Band 6 post, and you will be required to complete a mandatory degree/masters module Specialist Screening Practitioner course, this is funded by the Screening Centre/Trust.

We are looking to recruit a motivated, enthusiastic and flexible team player to join the nursing staff as a Specialist Screening Practitioner over 4 days per week (37.5 hrs). The role is varied and ranges from conducting nurse led clinic’s attending screening colonoscopy lists, giving results, breaking bad news and generally supporting patients throughout their screening pathway. You will be expected to assist with health promotion activities and undertaking audits. You will be required to liaise with several specialities and all members of the multi disciplinary team regarding a patient's care to ensure the safest and highest quality of care is delivered to patients within the Programme.
- Nurse led clinics involving pre-assessment/suitability for Screening procedures.
- Complex clinical decision making

- Ability to liaise with all members of the Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) confidently
- Attend and support in Screening Endoscopy lists
- Enter specific data onto the Bowel Cancer Screening System (BCSS)

- Provide information and support to Somerset Screening participants
- Communicate clearly to all colleagues and members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Communicate Screening information professionally, sensitively, and diplomatically which can be highly emotive to clients, their relatives/carers.
- Interpret complex histology

- Communicate highly sensitive information to patients about their specific diagnosis which could include informing patients of cancer diagnosis/significant news
- Have a full understanding of Screening pathways and provide information regarding these to patients and their family/ carers
- To ensure clear lines of communication and work collaboratively with all relevant health care professionals and agencies
- To tailor the style and level of communication with individuals in order to meet the differing levels of understanding, ensuring equity of access to all.
