Manchester, United Kingdom Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Full time

We are looking for Band 6 midwives to join our award winning Maternity Triage team. We are expanding our team as part of our ongoing service development to support the introduction of a dedicated telephone triage midwife. You will provide care in the Maternity Triage department following the Birmingham Symptom Specific Obstetric Triage System (BSOTS) and promote this to other staff within the Maternity Unit. You will work as part of a friendly, flexible and dedicated core team fulfilling all roles within Triage (telephone triage, initial triage and ongoing care) in line with BSOTS. You will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team within Maternity Triage. You will work autonomously within departmental/Trust guidelines and professional sphere of practice in line with NMC guidance.

Saint Mary’s Managed Clinical Service (MCS) are proud to be the largest maternity service in the country providing care for women and birthing people across Greater Manchester and surrounding areas, supporting around 17,500 births each year, cared for by over 700 whole time equivalent midwives. You will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development and implementation of ongoing care plans for women who attend Maternity Triage in line with BSOTS.

The post holder will be responsible for giving safe, evidence-based advice to all women, families and external agencies who telephone the Maternity Triage department.

You will be responsible for assessing the need for women to either attend Maternity Triage or manage conditions at home and for signposting women to other agencies.

Responsibilities also include supporting student midwives, support staff and junior midwives working in the Maternity Triage department.

You will support ongoing and future service development within the department and support junior staff with change.

You will contribute to creating a learning environment in the department acting as a role model and mentor to less experienced midwifes, student midwives and other staff.

The maintenance of your own professional development will be key to your success, and look out for every opportunity to increase your own knowledge, skills and expertise.

Dedicated to providing an environment that encourages patient-centred involvement, you’ll promote good working relationships with all the internal and external departments you work with, with the ultimate aim of providing the best patient journey possible.
