We are recruiting for a pharmacy assistant on Halliwell Road, Bolton.

We are looking for someone who is serious and wants a career focused in the healthcare/pharmacy world. This is usually a long-term permanent position. We will be paying an outside provider to train you.

This job is not suitable for anyone looking for a 'mess about' job. You must be able to give the job your full attention. While the work environment is very friendly, it can become intense at times. We deal with medicines and medical advice which, if provided incorrectly, can lead to patient harm or worse. Mistakes can be costly. You must be able to give this job your full attention and be able to take on responsibilities.

The role includes working on the counter as a counter assistant (selling medicines and giving advice), working in the dispensary as a dispensary assistant (ordering, dispensing and chasing up prescriptions) as well as assisting the pharmacist in ensuring the best possible care for patients.

The successful applicant will be given all the necessary training required for them to complete the job. This includes a NVQ level 2 Pharmacy Assistant course which you will study for at home, and sit a number of short exams at the workplace during working hours.
- **Hours**:20 hrs a week: wednesday 9am-1pm, thursday 9-6pm, friday 9am-6pm. The successful applicant will work at least 1 in every 4 saturdays (and will take off wednesday the week you work this saturday). Please note on thursday and friday there is an unpaid 1 hour lunch break.

- Verbal communication is necessary. It is extremely important to give clear information confidently when conversing on the phone and counter. You will bec ommunicating with colleagues, patients, customers and others (e.g. receptionists at GP surgeries) on a daily basis so this is a must.
- accurate. Attention to detail is crucial in this field.

- able to take responsibility for tasks, from start to finish. Once trained, you will be expected to deal with queries and issues yourself. Assistance will always be at hand however.
- able to follow instructions. Procedures are in place for many tasks and you must be willing to work in certain ways for many tasks.
- able to handle pressure

**General roles may include**:

- ensuring the pharmacy is clean and organised. This includes sweeping up, washing up etc.
- serving patients and customers (taking in prescriptions, answering queries, advising patients on health issues and recommending medicines under the supervision of the pharmacist)
- Answering the phone
- labeling and dispensing prescriptions for the pharmacist to check
- handling phone calls and dealing with queries from patients and other people (e.g. professionals)
- chasing up missing prescriptions with the surgeries
- daily stock checks and daily ordering
- monthly date checks to ensure items are not expired or expiring
- handling money - cashing up and calculating earnings on a daily basis
