**Summary**:
The UKHO and the Admiralty brand are world leading and highly respected by mariners and shipping companies worldwide with our products used by the majority of commercially trading cargo and passenger vessels. However, the world is evolving fast driven by digitisation, decarbonisation and changing and disrupted trading patterns so we have a growing need to be more customer focussed and ensure that market insight and business intelligence drive our future strategy and decision making.

This is a new role reporting to the Head of Customer Strategy and Innovation, that will be at the heart of the business, bringing in insight, intelligence and analysis to inform senior leaders and help to shape our strategy going forwards. The role will suit someone who has experience of running market insight and business intelligence functions and who can extract the ‘so what?’ from a complex picture and present compelling evidence to audiences of senior managers.

**Job description**:
The purpose of this role is to provide the UKHO with a brand-new business intelligence function to support the delivery and development of its strategy, identify risks and opportunities and provide evidence to underpin decision making. The key audiences for this intelligence are Executive Leadership Team, HO Board and the senior managers but the goal is that every member of the UKHO has access to and makes use of key strategic intelligence.

You will contribute to transforming the business to become more focused and astute through the regular use of key commercial intelligence in all general business activities. The ultimate aim of the role is to strengthen UKHO’s position in the marketplace by supporting sound and insightful strategic commercial planning, innovative products and services and dynamic value creation.

You will do this by developing and leading an enduring function that will act as the focal point for all market insight, market research and business intelligence activity within the UKHO ensuring that the needs of the various audiences are met. This will involve being proactive in seeking out information, converting it into insight and making that insight available to stakeholders in ways that are easy for them to understand and take action on. You will also support the evolution of the business strategy by arranging appropriate external challenge on our strategic thinking.

You will develop a knowledge management strategy to ensure that market and business intelligence is gathered and shared widely and appropriately with UKHO internal audiences.

The expectation is that to achieve this in the longer term will require a small team. During this first year you will evaluate the true need and develop a proposal for a long-term capability.

**Responsibilities**:
You will support the needs of the Executive Leadership Team, senior managers and the wider business by providing a set of services (either directly or through managed contracts) including:
**Risk/opportunity analysis**

Competitor analysis and potential ‘partner’ identification

Market scoping and sizing to define markets and quantify the total addressable market for us and what value we can really add

Pricing research and policy for new and existing markets

Due diligence on potential ‘partners’ and key industry players

**Market Intelligence**

Managing formal market research to answer specific questions, including longitudinal surveys to track trends

Market intelligence - extracting the so what? out of news articles, meeting read outs and intel from our account managers

Horizon scanning - what is coming up in the way of new technology, regulation, new entrants etc that might impact the UKHO as a business?

Arranging contact and discussion with key industry players

**Business intelligence, knowledge management and reporting**

Working across divisions to coordinate internal data analysis, reporting and management information dashboards.

Championing management information requirements across UKHO systems

**Developing and implementing a knowledge management strategy for making the resources available to the organisation in a digestible way and changing the culture of the organisation to routinely collect and share intel and information and to make use of it in decision making.**
