We are recruiting on behalf of our client, who is looking for a **WASTE SUPPORT OFFICER**to join their time on a temporary basis. Applicants must have a valid full UK Drivers Licence. **_Position Type: Temporary_** **_Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday between 07:00am - 15:00pm_** **_Hourly Rate: £9.30_** **Purpose of the job**: - To engage with and educate residents in a polite and professional manor, to encourage them to take personal responsibility for disposing of their waste correctly. - To understand and take enforcement action against people who leave their waste where it should not be. - To support the delivery of Love Where You Live programme within local areas. **Main Responsibilities**: To form part of a small team of enthusiastic self-motivated officers to assist in the delivery of important changes to household waste and recycling collections in Sheffield. The team will deal with hot spot areas city wide and will be managed centrally by the Estate and Environmental Services team. However, the officers will spend a significant amount of their time working from area offices, building relationships with the areateams. - Work with the Area Estate Teams to identify and target hotspot areas for problems with fly tipping/black bags and recycling etc. - Send letters to inform residents about the campaign and ask for their support. - Carry out home visits to ensure that residents are aware of the appropriate ways to dispose of household waste. - Distribute literature and produce and display other publicity materials around education and enforcement. - Attend local community and TARA meetings to provide updates and deal with enquiries. - Arrange and support events within the community. - Carry out daily walkabouts at identified hotspot areas. - Identify and rectify any waste capacity issues through the Waste Management team & Veolia. - Liaise with other Council officers, in particular the Councils Environmental Protection team and Waste Management team. - Roll out education programme of "Love Where You Live" to tenants and residents on Housing estates together with Area Housing staff. - Deliver presentations around the Education and Enforcement project to local TARA’s and schools together with the Area Housing Teams. - Search through waste found where it shouldn’t be for evidence of who it belongs to, and subsequently carry out a home visit where an address is identified to discuss how waste should be disposed of correctly. - Identify repeat offenders for fly tipping / incorrect waste disposal, provide witness statements, initiate recharges for incorrectly left waste and work with Area ASB teams to open an ASB call on OHMS for the offending resident. - To record and collate data using excel and spread sheets re: fly tipping / black bags within Estates. - To provide an efficient and effective admin support as part of a team: - Collect information from a variety of sources - Record and collate statistical and other information - Assist with training activities within the team or to area based staff. Any other related duties and responsibilities which may arise. Some of the above responsibilities may involve requests for attendance at meetings and site visits outside of normal office hours needs to be flexible when needed. All duties and responsibilities should be carried out in accordance with agreed Sheffield Housing Services policy and procedures, in particular the policies on Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety. **Skills and Experiences**: - To be capable of representing the Council in a professional, positive manner in a variety of forums - Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. - Ability to interpret and follow policies, procedures and legislation. - Ability to work flexibly as part of a team and take responsibility for organising and prioritising personal workload. - Keyboard skills and have experience of using new technology in a customer centred environment for at least a year minimum. - Ability to understand and issue penalty letters / notices and update systems accordingly using excel and spreadsheets. - Ability to provide a service to customers either over the phone or face to face. - Ability to deliver presentations and organise community events - Ability to listen and to assimilate information. - To be capable of visiting tenants in their own home - Ability to understand and implement the Sheffield Homes Equal Opportunities policies. - Competent and confident in the use of IT packages
