The role of the Liaison & Diversion Peer Support Worker has been developed specifically for individuals who have lived experience within the Criminal Justice System. The Peer Support Worker uses their own unique, life-altering experience in order to guide and support others who are in some form of recovery. Peer Support Workers provide support from the perspective of someone who has first-hand experience, something that professionals cannot learn from training or education.
The Liaison and Diversion (L&D) Peer Support Worker will have the responsibility for providing quality services for vulnerable individuals in contact with Criminal Justice system under the supervision of a Liaison & Diversion practitioner.
- To support service users to identify and overcome fears and within a relationship of empathy, trust and honesty, challenge negative self-talk.
- To facilitate access to community groups and networks that enable service users to participate in community activities, in order to maximise opportunities for taking on socially valued roles and positive identity.
- To accompany service users to appointments/meetings of their choice and perform a range of practical tasks, aligned to recovery goals.
- Develop skills in working with those with a variety of social health needs
- To build a relationship of trust with clients and to understand the importance of empowering them
- Assist clients to enable them to achieve their personalised support outcomes
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a high standard of service to people using our services
- Be prepared to contribute own experiences to identify barriers and gaps in services, how they could be improved and to identify good practice
- Attend and identify appropriate training and development opportunities as required
- Work in partnership with the Team Manager/Deputy Team Manager to access personal support each week in order to improve own self-confidence to do the job
- Develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with clients
- Provide emotional and practical support and advice to enable clients to improve their quality of life, develop their skills and make decisions about their future. This may include:
- encouraging and motivating clients to engage with appropriate services
- alongside the Liaison and Diversion Outreach Team, assessing clients’ needs, and implementing individual support plans
- accompanying clients to other projects and external appointments
- encouraging and supporting clients to participate in meaningful activities.
- Respond appropriately to chaotic and challenging behaviour to safeguard the well-being of all clients and staff
- Liaise with external agencies as required
- Maintain an effective reporting system by observing and reporting verbally and in writing on patient conditions.
- Utilise agreed outcome measures to review the effectiveness of process, as part of Liaison and Diversion Service.
- Participate in the development of the service to ensure clinical governance processes are actively implemented at team level.
- Assist in ensuring that the aims and objectives of the service are fulfilled and to identify factors which may inhibit these from being achieved.
- To attend relevant clinical meetings / forums as requested.
- To plan and manage own delegated workload on a day to day basis.
- To remain up to date and compliant with mandatory training requirements.
Part-time hours: 15 per week

**Salary**: £10.77 per hour (equivalent to £21,000 per annum pro rata)
