Our client is a start-up joint special purpose vehicle (SPV) business, specifically created to design, construct and deliver a new fleet of Small Modular Reactors power plants that will be a critical and strategic player in the race to Net Zero carbon emissionsglobally.

**Job Overview**:
The Development Engineering organisation is accountable for proving that our client's power station design meets its objectives and requirements. This encompasses not just the domain of nuclear engineering, but the broader range of engineering functionsnecessary to deliver a major infrastructure project. The team’s remit includes defining the Verification Strategy for the power station, and also executing any verification activities that involve testing - and these range from laboratory-type tests throughto highly complex system-level rig tests in some world-leading facilities.

This is a once in a generation opportunity to be at the centre of proving the design of a new nuclear power station and establishing a world class testing capability. Reporting to the Team Leader for Test Rig Fluid Systems Design, the Test Rig Design Engineer will be responsible for the development of test rigs which provide data for complex fluid system problems. The test rig designs will be developed through a seriesof gated reviews, requiring the use of systems engineering and process design techniques to develop robust solutions that meet the project requirements.

There are opportunities within our client's programme to design a range of exciting and complex thermal hydraulic test rigs which are required to verify the design of our client's innovative passive Reactor Safety Systems.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Define and manage test rig requirements, nominally including systems, components, installations, and controls and instrumentation requirements.
- Develop engineering assessments e.g. undertake fluid flow analyses to determine system pressure drops, define pump head/flow requirements, sizes vessels and define heat exchanger requirements.
- Develop test rigs that are safe by design, supporting the production of HAZOPs and FMECAs.
- Develop design documentation including P&IDs, system descriptions and operating philosophies.
- Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver an optimised test rig. This will include working with power station design teams, suppliers, and external test houses.
- Manage and plan own time to ensure delivery to cost, quality and schedule.
- Understand and articulate design risks, managing them as appropriate with the Test Rig Design Leads.
- Act as a technical representative for assigned test rigs at technical and project reviews

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- Qualified to degree level or equivalent in engineering, physical sciences, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) or working towards professional accreditation.
- Knowledge of fluid mechanics and thermodynamic fundamentals.
- Process system design experience. This could be gained from any process plant industry.
- Familiarity with systems engineering principles is desirable.
