An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated full time highly specialised clinical neurophysiologist to join our developing neurophysiology service. The role is based at West Middlesex University Hospital although working cross-site between Chelsea & Westminster/West Middlesex Hospital and being flexible to do so is essential.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the clinical work of the department, performing sleep-deprived or melatonin sleep EEGs, ambulatory EEGs, multi - modality evoked potentials and physiology-led nerve conduction clinics. There will be combination of both inpatient and outpatient activity covering both adult and paediatric (including neonatal).

The post holder will be expected to take work closely with the Chief Physiologist at the Chelsea site for a smooth and efficient running of the service as a whole.

They should have the knowledge of and be proficient with specialist neurophysiology investigations.

Perform a broad range of clinical investigations on adult, paediatric and neonate patients working independently in the Department and all wards and intensive care units including Neonatal Units

**The range of investigations will encompass**: departmental and portable EEGs (routine and sleep); evoked potentials & CTS/UNE/PNS screening in adults.

We provide services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East.

Roles and responsibilities

Plan, perform, interpret and provide factual reports of neurophysiological investigations to a high level of competence, using professional initiative both independently and under supervision.

**These include**:

- Routine and Sleep EEGs ( Sleep deprived EEG with or without medication))
- Visual, Auditory and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials.
- CTS/UNE/PNS screening in adults.
- Supervise junior Physiologists (Band 5 and 6) and support them in their professional development
- To assist in on-going Quality Improvement Projects and undertake audits.
- To assist with accreditation of Neurophysiological services (IQIPS)
- Attendance of meetings of professional body meetings and regular study days, when feasible, is encouraged.
- To handle patient complaints and comments in a polite manner and ensure that all problems are reported or referred to the appropriate manager.
- Deal with patient enquiries regarding booking times, pre-test instructions and contraindications.
- Be able to calibrate, use, and perform quality control on all testing equipment and report faults or problems with the equipment used in any part of the service to Professional Service Manager or Clinical Engineers.
- To ensure accurate logging and filing of data from the neurophysiological investigations. To be responsible for its availability and integrity and to follow the regulations relating to the Data Protection Act.
- Storage and data management of test results on testing equipment database and ensure this is available via the hospital database for referring physicians, whilst maintaining quality assurance.
- Monitor data usage and storage, archiving
- To help develop existing departmental diagnostic protocols.
- Contribute to weekly teaching meetings: to maintain continuous professional development appropriate to the range of neurophysiology services to patients.
- To keep up to date with the finding in the field of Clinical Neurophysiology and to be prepared to learn new techniques.
- To show flexibility in daily work to deliver the clinical needs of the department
- Contribute to stock control by reporting when stocks are low.
