**About the team**
**Join the Youth Justice Service and make a difference to victims of crime in Hertfordshire**
Hertfordshire Youth Justice Service work with children aged between 10 and 18 with the aim of preventing offending and re-offending. The Service supports children who have received an Order through the court, as well as children who have received an out of court resolution.
The Service is multi-disciplinary with a variety of specialist workers who lead on specific elements of work. The role of the Victim Worker is one such role.
Hertfordshire Youth Justice Service is committed to providing a supportive, sensitive, and focused service for individuals who are victims of youth crime and have contact with the Youth Justice system. The Victim Worker provides victims with the opportunity to have their voice heard and take part in a range of restorative justice processes on a voluntary basis, to help provide them with some form of resolution.
**About the role**
This role ensures that all victims of youth crime receive a sensitive professional and appropriate service adhering to the Victim Code, Youth Justice standards and policies relating to victims.
The role will work collaboratively as part of our multi-agency Youth Justice Service to promote restorative justice, providing victims with a voice and ensuring that the needs and safety of victims of youth crime are met.
We are looking for a motivated individual with sound communication and organisational skills. You will need to have an understanding of the work of the Youth Justice Service, issues that affect young people involved in offending and victims of crime, including restorative approaches, and the Victim Code.
**About you**
Essential requirements:
- Awareness of issues relating to young people who offend and victims of crime
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with a range of individuals including young people, parents, carers, victims, wider professionals and external agencies.
- Self-motivated and able to organise and effectively manage own workload.
- Experience of dealing with conflict and problem solving.
- Experience of contributing to multi-agency meetings.
- Strong IT skills to maintain confidential and accurate records on both case management systems and Excel spreadsheets.
- Driving licence and access to a vehicle
Desirable:
- Understanding of the Youth Justice System and criminal justice process
- Working knowledge of the Victim Code
