Renal Unit Receptionist/medical Typist

Support the smooth running of the renal service by ensuring that patients’ transport is booked/cancelled and train nursing staff to use the booking system when needed.
Provide administrative support to all clinical staff by ensuring effective co-ordination of renal clinics are run smoothly in the renal unit. This included the booking/cancellation of clinics in line with planned and unplanned changes.
Assist the Patient Pathway Co-ordinator to type clinic letters, reports and other clinical correspondence in line with the Trust’s contractual key performance indicators (KPIs).
Provide cross-cover for other Renal Administrative staff to ensure a consistent and effective administration service is maintained at all times.
Ensure patient information is maintained and updated on Renal EMED system. This includes all activities are recorded on both Renal EMED system and EPR system.
Adapt a flexible attitude to meet the needs of the service taking into consideration reception area is covered at all times
Courteously and efficiently receive telephone enquiries from patients, carers and external agencies in relation to hospital admissions, appointments and general enquires, ensuring that accurate records, both manual and electronic, are maintained and appropriate action is taken in a timely manner. Receive and process incoming correspondence, paper and electronic, ensuring it reaches the appropriate place within the required deadlines. Responsible for answering machine to be diverted to the haemodialysis unit after reception is closed. In liaison with PPC and PPA ensure that Reception is covered Monday to Friday, any problems should be communicated to the Nurse in Charge or Nurse Manager.
Ensure to process confidential patient-sensitive documentation to and from patients, other healthcare professionals and external agencies are maintained in line with Trust policy. Action any change in patient’s personal details, ensuring electronic data is kept up to date. Report all accidents/incidents which occur to patients or visitors immediately to the
Nurse in Charge.
Order and maintain stationary/materials in accordance with Trust policy.
