Transport Planner
Butlers Haulage have 55 trucks and 90 trailers, predominately delivering steel across the UK.
We are looking for a transport planner to join us, who will be based at our customers' premises. Please note, our customer is shortly moving to a brand new site, with state-of-the-art offices.
Job role would include, but not limited:
- Being first point of contact for our customer.
- Liaising between our customer and our traffic office.
- Updating delivery ETAs throughout the day, and alerting customer of any changes.
- Customer will send through the transport request for the following day (which just says location, weight etc), role would be to build this up into loads, and then put into the transport plan spreadsheet (usually 400 - 500 tonnes worth of deliveries each day). This is a fluid process, with the request changing throughout the day as the customer looks to build up the weight to ensure the wagons are carrying correct weight.
- Once loads have been built up, our planner will complete the transport plan spreadsheet putting what time slot each wagon will be loading at, taking into account when the load will be ready, customer closing times etc (and liaising with our transport office).
- Communicate to our night shunter who pre-loads some trailers what loads are going on what trailer numbers.
- Input ETAs for completed transport plan for the following day.
- Deal with customer collections requests.
- Communicate with drivers when required.
- Being available 'out of hours' to deal with any issues that can arise.
- Rough hours will be 07.30am - 17.30pm, Monday - Friday.
Skills / experience required:
- Transport planning experience.
- Steel-industry experience.
- Microsoft Excel literate.
- Class 1 driving experience is also beneficial due to the knowledge that comes with it.
Please note, this role is working for a transport company, being based in a steel company, so a strong character is required for this position due to the high pressure nature of the business.
Training would take place at office (Brierley Hill) and at our customers' premises, with a view to then move full-time to our customers.
