**Job Title**:Cleaner

**Salary**:Grade A1; £18,596

**Hours**:37.5 per week

**Job Purpose**:To ensure that all areas of the YMCA buildings are cleaned to a high standard and to facilitate maintenance across areas of responsibility.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Ensuring standards of safety, cleanliness and tidiness are maintained and monitored throughout the lettable areas of the YMCA.
- To carry out spot and emergency cleaning which may be necessary to maintain hygiene standards.
- Convey waste produce to the appropriate central refuse area as required.
- To ensure ample supplies of cleaning materials, etc. are available and, if required, notify Line Manager if reordering is necessary.
- The cleaning of rooms vacated by residents and to report to the appropriate Housing Manager when completion of room cleaning has been carried out.
- To clean corridors, stairs, residents’ common areas, toilets/showers/bathrooms, offices, kitchens and meeting/ function rooms.

**Person Specification**:

- Previous experience in a commercial or similar hostel environment is desirable. Alternatively, a demonstration of an understanding of the requirements of the role gained from a personal perspective, or in a volunteering or other context.
- An understanding of appropriate methods for the disposal of waste materials and fluids.
- Ability to prioritise own work in keeping with agreed norms and to be self-managing to ensure delivery.
- Ability to recognise potential health and safety hazards to self, other staff, residents and members of the public.
- Ability to use stock appropriately and to ensure replenishment is timely and cost effective.
