About our Pharmacy Service
Working as part of the team within the Main Pharmacy department you will deliver a high quality, flexible and responsive service.
You may on occasions be asked to work in one or more of the various areas that make up the Technical Services department depending on the current needs of the service. These include:
- Aseptic Unit - support the dispensing, supply and provision of advice on radiopharmaceuticals, chemotherapy treatments, parenteral nutrition, IV additives and other injectable products.
- Non-Sterile Unit - support the production of over-labelled, repacked, extemporaneous and batch manufactured products.
- Quality Assurance - support the quality assurance of all manufacturing operations and maintenance of the Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS).
Carry out any necessary checking processes required during the production of manufactured, repacked or extemporaneous products
Dispense aseptically prepared products for inpatients, outpatients and outside customers, including cytotoxic products and radiopharmaceuticals, by calculating appropriate dosage and quantities required against prescriptions/requisitions, following departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
With the Principal Pharmacy Technician, take responsibility for staff deployment, prioritisation of workload, supervision of staff and delegation of duties. Liaise as appropriate with other Technicians and Senior Operatives to ensure the efficiency of all activities.
Prepare and dispense Radiopharmaceutical products within the correct designated area, following the Local Rules at all times and ensuring Registration Limits are adhered to.
Select, prepare and use isolators and work areas correctly, in line with aseptic procedures.
Accurately select and measure all ingredients as per product worksheet.

Supervise, check and organise all staff allocated to the Non-Sterile Preparative Services on a day to day basis, organising the work as appropriate in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacy Technician and Band 3 Senior Assistants
Communicate effectively and work closely with the Band 3 Senior Assistants in Non-Sterile Preparative Services to ensure all work is produced to the required standard in an appropriate time frame
Carry out any necessary checking processes required during the production of all manufactured, repacked or extemporaneous products prepared in the department
Work with mínimal supervision in the Non-Sterile Preparative Unit, preparing batch products that are manufactured, over-labelled or packed down from bulk in accordance with departmental SOPs
Prepare extemporaneous products on request
