Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom Komodo Digital Ltd Full time

**A little about us**

We’re Komodo Digital, a Newcastle-based digital studio with a passion for solving complex problems and creating real-world impact for our clients. We’re not your typical formal business, but take our work seriously.

We work on projects that push boundaries and pride ourselves on a culture that’s both innovative and down-to-earth. We love solving complex challenges for big clients but also appreciate a good laugh along the way. Our Newcastle studio is a creative space where ideas flow—and we’d love for you to be part of it.

**About the Role**

We’re looking for a Senior Designer to join our team—someone who can pick up and run projects autonomously while also being a great collaborator. This role reports directly to the Design Director, who will provide you with guidance and support throughout the design process.

As a Senior Designer at Komodo Digital, you’ll be at the forefront of our creative projects. You’ll take ownership of the design process from start to finish, leading the way in creating innovative solutions for our clients. You’ll run discovery workshops, develop concepts, and turn ideas into beautifully crafted digital products.

This role is about balancing creativity with practicality —taking complex ideas and turning them into intuitive, user-friendly designs that work seamlessly across platforms.

You’ll work closely with clients to understand their needs and guide them through the design process, ensuring their vision is brought to life. Collaboration is critical —you’ll work alongside developers, product managers, and other designers to deliver projects that meet our high quality and creativity standards. We also need you to be comfortable facilitating workshops, conducting user research, and presenting your ideas clearly and effectively.

**This is a hybrid role, so you need to be able (and happy) to work from our Newcastle studio a few days a week. We value flexibility but thrive on the energy of in-person collaboration. We also require you to attend any client meetings/workshops in the office when scheduled.**

**About you**
- You’re an experienced designer with the ability to take ownership of projects, working both independently and as part of a team.
- You value strong design principles and believe in solid foundations over fleeting trends.
- You’re friendly, hardworking, and sociable. We’re looking for someone as comfortable leading a client workshop as they are chatting with colleagues in the studio.
- You’re confident running discovery workshops and creative sessions independently—you love diving deep into understanding our clients and their challenges.

**Required Skills & Expertise**
- Highly creative and imaginative, showcasing strong UI/UX and visual skills with a portfolio to demonstrate your work.
- Solid understanding of design principles and best practices and an ability to create intuitive, user-centred digital products across web and mobile platforms.
- Keen to stay updated with the industry, tools, and technologies. You’ll advocate for best practices in design. We’re not a big fan of trends here. Solid design principles matter more.
- Experience with Figma, FigJam/Miro, and prototyping tools to design wireframes, user flows, and high-fidelity designs.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present and articulate design decisions to internal teams and clients.
- Able to work independently after direction and collaboratively with developers, product managers, and stakeholders.
- Excellent time management, multitasking skills, and confidence in running workshops and client meetings.
- Open to receiving and providing feedback to improve designs and processes.

**Nice to Have (Optional)**
- Able to conduct user research, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, and data analysis.
- Experience in branding design.
- Experience in Framer, designing, and building websites.
- Experience in Jittr (or equivalent), building animations, and micro-interactions.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, Photoshop.

**What You’ll Do**
- Take the reigns on design projects, from discovery and ideation to delivery.
- Facilitate workshops and creative sessions independently with clients and colleagues, helping uncover key insights and turning them into actionable design solutions.
- Work closely with developers, strategists, and the rest of our talented team to create work that makes a real difference.
- Design intuitive, user-centred digital products for both web and mobile platforms.
- Translate user needs, business goals, and technical requirements into elegant and functional designs.
- Present and articulate design decisions to clients and stakeholders, ensuring a shared understanding of the project vision.
- Maintain and expand our design systems, ensuring consistency across projects.
- Iterate designs based on feedback from clients, stakeholders, and user testing.
