**About the role**:
The post is funded by the Medical Research Council for 2 years in the first instance.

You will work on large-scale studies of single
- and multi-organ fibrosis, to discover genes that affect disease risk and the prognosis of patients, leading to new ways to treat these diseases. You will take a leading role in analysing very large data sets, including UK Biobank, interpreting the results, and presenting the findings to national and international collaborators.

You will be part of the Genetic Epidemiology Research Group, an internationally renowned team of approximately 30 staff and students at all career stages studying the genetic determinants of a range of complex diseases. We lead large-scale genomic epidemiology research to advance drug development and precision medicine, and develop statistical methods to improve the analysis of these studies. Our group is friendly, collaborative and diverse, and has a strong track record of securing research funding and encouraging career progression, and has collaborations with academic and industry partners around the world.

**About you**:
As the successful applicant, you will have a PhD, or equivalent experience, in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology or epidemiology, with experience of statistical analysis and the use of research computing (i.e. Linux and R). Experience or knowledge of genome-wide association studies or Mendelian randomisation would be an advantage. You will be motivated by conducting research that will benefit patients and will be adept at communicating your research to non-specialist audiences as well as to scientists and clinicians in other disciplines.

You will have effective interpersonal skills and be prepared to work successfully as part of a team to deliver the specific research aims of the project.
