Designer Contracts are currently recruiting for a Floor laying apprentice to join our team based in Newcastle

Starting salary - £10,000 (Salary will increase when key stages are achieved)

Apprenticeship level - Floor laying standard 2

Type - Permanent, Full Time

Working Pattern - Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm Total hours per week - 40

As an apprentice floor layer you will work in domestic and commercial buildings alongside an experienced fitter. Floor layers install a range of floor coverings from carpet, luxury vinyl tiles to sheet resilient flooring.

We are looking for a highly motivated, organised, and friendly individual with a can-do attitude. Carpet fitting and floor laying can be physically demanding so this is the ideal job for anyone looking for practical work.

The role of a floor layer is varied, and each day will be different. You will work to a structured scheme of works to achieve the floor laying standard. Some of the tasks you will be expected to assist with and become competent in are:
Measuring and estimating

Uplifting existing flooring

Cleaning and levelling subfloors

Installing gripper and underlay to flat areas and stairs

Installing carpets by stretching or bonding to the prepared surface

Fitting domestic and commercial resilient flooring

Working within the warehouse

Personal qualities

Well mannered, presentable, and trustworthy

Punctual, reliable, and eager to learn

Good communication skills for dealing with customers

Enjoy practical work

Have a keen eye for detail

Be comfortable with working away from home if required

Be able to get to the business address daily on time
