Mortality Project Support Lead

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as the Mortality Project Support Lead.
As a member of the Quality and Audit Department, you will take the lead on supporting the Trust wide mortality and learning from deaths program. This will include project management of the mortality review process, supporting reviewers, analysis of review data, sharing of learning and performance improvement and will be responsible for monitoring the Trust's performance against the national mortality indicators. The post holder will support in identifying policy changes and specific interventions which will seek to improve the Trust's position within the published mortality indicators and will lead on developing and supporting the implementation of the Trust’s Learning from Deaths Policy and effective Mortality and Morbidity meetings.
The permanent base is to be confirmed but the post holder will be required to visit other sites of the Trust as and when required.
Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and colleagues within the team and across all divisions, the post holder will support the learning from deaths process including co-ordination of review activity. The post holder will need to have excellent people skills, as this role requires a high degree of critical review, engagement, and challenge to busy clinical and corporate colleagues. The post holder will be responsible for drafting the monthly mortality reports to the Trust’s Mortality Improvement Group as well as the quarterly Learning from Deaths report to the Trust Board.

- The post-holder will work autonomously and independently, with guidance where necessary and will be responsible for planning their own workload to meet department, Trust and external agencies requirements, including weekly, monthly and annual deadlines.
- Produce reports for the Trust Board/Sub Committees and other relevant groups allowing them to monitor against Trust goals and targets.
- Highlight to the senior management team in each division areas where progress towards compliance is slow or off track.
- Facilitate the sharing of good practice and quality improvement across the Trust.
- Act in a pro-active manner and use established knowledge and experience to develop and implement new improved ways of working which benefit the trust.
- Develop and implement changes to systems of working to improve quality and safety however maintain escalation processes where necessary to senior colleagues.
- Ability to highlight inaccuracies, risks to delivery or challenges to workload.
- Assist with, collate and complete accurate and timely information in line with the Trust’s reporting requirements e.g. Commissioners, Trust Board, other external authorities, negotiating mutually acceptable reporting timescales where appropriate.
- Analyse complex and patient sensitive data to show Trust trends and identify and highlight any areas of significance that requires further clinical investigation.
- Effectively communicate and present complex information to senior clinical staff at Sub-Groups of the Board where mortality related issues are discussed.
- Communicate and share learning with external partners such as GPs, Mental Health Trust colleagues, Ambulance Trust colleagues and ICB colleagues.
- Persuades staff of the importance of the project, negotiates with, and motivates staff to ensure project delivery including linking in with other initiatives, communicates sensitive information about performance and change, makes routine presentations.
- Plans elements of projects and leads on coordinating the effective implementation of ongoing specialty Mortality & Morbidity meetings.
- Design, implement and oversee the administrative processes relating to allocation and ongoing monitoring of Structured Judgment Reviews is effective and efficient.
- Adjust plans and reallocate tasks to meet service requirements.
