Description of the department
The Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Private Debt team manages loans secured against a variety of property types (student accommodation, offices, logistics, data centres, retail, residential, etc.) across the UK, Europe, and the USA. You'll be part of a collaborative team based in London and Paris, working on deals and learning from industry experts. The team has an excellent culture which focusses on supporting young professionals starting their career.
Your role and responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the senior CRE Debt Loan Asset Managers on the day-to-day management of loans within the portfolio
- Preparing reports containing loan data which is shared to investors and other AXA IM Teams
- Tracking cashflows associated with the CRE Loans i.e. payments of principal and interest
- Maintaining databases of loan/ asset data
- Monitoring the performance of loans through quarterly Borrower reporting packs and assisting on quarterly loan review
- Monitoring the ESG performance of the portfolio
- Refining and improving processes including the implementation of new systems
- Helping more experienced team members (based in both London and Paris) with the following tasks:
- Day to day management of loans CRE Loans: (mix of development and investment loans, secured against a range of asset classes in various locations) working closely with a number of internal and external stakeholders
- Working alongside the Fund Management Team closing new loans: guidelines check, validation of deal allocation, Borrower analysis, ensuring payments /investments are properly processed and received
- IPDs: interest cashflows reconciliation, fee calculations (break costs, non-utilization fees, make-whole fees), repayments/ paydowns/ drawdowns/amortization tracking
- Covenants/waivers: Ensuring any modifications are as per legal documentation, regular analysis of covenants (alerting Fund Managers where necessary)
- Reconciliation: of financial information as to ensure the quality of the internally and externally shared data
- Valuation: preparation of the valuation committee/loan review, analysing new asset valuation reports.
Education Skills & Experience
Education
- Undergraduate students on a 4-year degree with a placement year (starting June/July 2026)
- Studying Finance, Investment, Real Estate, or a related subject (other backgrounds welcome)
Skills
- Ability to work both independently, and efficiently in a team, within an international and fast-moving environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (modelling and analysis), Word, and PowerPoint
- Analytical thinking
- Effective communication including verbal, written & presentational
- Creative thinking, capability to develop innovative solutions and challenge consensus
- Ability to learn quickly and open to taking on new challenges
- Team player with a positive, proactive attitude
- Fluency in English. Second European language is an advantage
Experience
- Proven interest in finance/ investment/ real estate / fund management
- Previous internship or work experience is helpful but not essential
