Main Function of Job:
Carlisle House is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker to join our team. The Support Worker will play a vital role in ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for our service users. By providing support through open, collaborative conversations, you will assist individuals in finding alternative solutions to their substance misuse challenges. About Carlisle House:
Carlisle House is a Substance Use Treatment Centre within the Presbyterian Church in Ireland's Social Witness Council. We are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for individuals facing substance misuse issues. Our work is centered around compassion, respect, and a Christian ethos, offering both practical and emotional support for service users.
About The Role
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Promote a safe, welcoming environment for service users by adhering to all relevant policies and procedures.
- Encourage and support residents to engage in recreational and therapeutic activities to aid their recovery.
- Use an Integrative Systemic / Collaborative approach when working with service users to facilitate open, meaningful conversations.
- Administer medication according to Carlisle House policy, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Answer "advice and support" telephone calls, providing guidance or referring to appropriate resources when needed.
- Assist in implementing Health and Safety policies and procedures within the facility.
- Accompany service users to external appointments and activities, as required and appropriate.
- Help service users access information and services related to employment, education, training, and welfare.
- Support alcohol and drug testing procedures in line with Carlisle House policy.
- Maintain accurate and confidential electronic and manual records in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Attend staff meetings and work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals to ensure the smooth operation of the service.
- Participate in mandatory training to enhance professional development and maintain quality standards.
- Fulfill the role of person-in-charge when assigned on the rota, following successful completion of probation.
- Work within the Christian ethos of Carlisle House, demonstrating respect, acceptance, and compassion at all times.
- Be available for sleep-in duties as required by the rota.
- Carry out any other relevant duties as required to support the ongoing success of the Centre.

- A strong commitment to working within the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, upholding values of respect, acceptance, and compassion.
- Experience or a strong interest in supporting individuals with substance misuse issues.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with service users and team members.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to policies and procedures.
- A non-judgmental and supportive attitude towards individuals in recovery.
- Willingness to participate in training and further development.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-in duties.

Required Criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of substance use: reasons and contemporary treatments
- Knowledge and understanding of establishing collaborative and empowering relationships.
- Grade C GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and sleepovers
- Registration or be willing to register with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council
- Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and the ethos of Carlisle House i.e. respect, acceptance and compassion
- At least one year's experience of working in a supportive environment where adults have experienced mental health or substance use difficulties.
Experience of maintaining records electronically
Desired Criteria
- Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Adults) for Wales and NI (QCF)
- Health and Safety Training
- Certificate in Higher Education in Computing and IT or equivalent
- Knowledge and understanding of the wider Substance Misuse Strategies and Policies
- Access to a car for work purposes
- Experience of working with substance use treatment problems
- Experience of undertaking Safety Assessments
- Experience of receiving, recording and the administration of medication
