About the Role

Sensical are looking for a highly skilled Database Administrator with strong experience in Microsoft SQL Server, particularly with legacy and current versions. The successful candidate will focus on database maintenance, infrastructure transformation, optimisation, and stability across multiple client environments. As part of a Managed Service Provider (MSP), you will work on a variety of systems in parallel, ensuring that databases are secure, resilient, and high-performing.

  • Administer, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server environments (including older versions).
  • Oversee and improve backup and disaster recovery processes.
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks, including index management and patching.
  • Support SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure teams to lead database transformation and modernisation projects.
  • Support multiple client environments, balancing workloads across diverse systems.
  • Proactively monitor health, performance, and capacity of SQL Server instances.
  • Document processes, standards, and client configurations for consistency and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to both clients and internal teams.

We estimate that the role will be approximately evenly split in time between improvement works, BAU maintenance and reactive support.

Experience and Skills

  • Proven experience as a DBA with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (2008 R2 onwards).
  • Strong knowledge of MS SQL Server maintenance including patching.
  • Proficiency in backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Experience with SSRS and SSIS.
  • Experience with SQL infrastructure optimisation projects and migrations.
  • Experience working in multi-client or multi-environment setups (MSP background is a plus).
