Second Chef – Westerfield House Care Home

Are you passionate about creating wholesome, delicious meals that truly make a difference?

We are looking for a talented and caring Second Chef to join our friendly team and help provide nutritious, high-quality home-cooked food for our residents.

As our Second Chef, you'll support the Head Chef and play a key role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen. You'll prepare and present meals to a high standard, help plan menus that meet the nutritional needs of our residents, and ensure the kitchen is always clean, organised, and compliant with food safety regulations.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.
  • Ensuring all food is prepared safely and to the highest quality.
  • Managing stock rotation and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and safety.
  • Supporting a positive dining experience for our residents every day.

About you:

You'll be a dedicated, hands-on Chef who takes pride in their work and enjoys being part of a caring, team-focused environment.

You should have:

  • At least 6 months' experience in a professional kitchen (care home experience desirable).
  • NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds equivalent in Catering.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • A good understanding of nutrition for older adults.
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety and food hygiene regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a supportive team.

Hours:

To be agreed – including alternate weekends.
