Role Title: Senior Azure DevOps Engineer - Simulation
Locations: Hybrid working with one of the following locations as your primary site: Derby, Manchester or Warrington
We anticipate paying a salary between £48,000-£63,000 DOE.
We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we're doing something that's never been done before. We're revolutionising an industry. That's a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.
The Performance & Analysis team is the centre of excellence within Rolls-Royce SMR for the engineering analysis used to prove the performance and safety of the power station. The Performance and analysis team are building Engineering Simulators as part of their strategy.
About The Role
Reporting to the Simulation Development Manager, you will be involved in supporting the development, validation and verification of software simulation models of nuclear power plant and C&I systems by leading the implementation of Azure DevOps pipelines and environments to enable automation of software build and software validation and verification.
You will support the integration of simulation models within the overall simulation model architecture, and the development of the automation required to implement CI/CD processes and deliver software QA. The simulation model will be used to support design activities, analysis campaigns, verification programmes, validate C&I systems, and train operators.
You will support the development of the modelling and simulation environment, policies, procedures, and tool sets, taking ownership of building the automation of processes and tools for integration and quality assurance.
The Key Responsibilities Include
- Design and manage CI/CD pipelines: Create and maintain automated build, test, and deployment processes using Azure Pipelines for simulator software.
- Ensure security and compliance: Integrate security best practices and compliance policies into the DevOps processes, maintain compliance with all security and export control policies, including Cyber Essentials Plus.
- Manage source code: Define and enforce version control strategies for several streams of simulator software workstreams using Git and Azure Repos.
- Monitor and optimize systems: Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting using tools like Azure Monitor and Application Insights to ensure application performance, reliability, and security of multiple concurrent simulator workstreams.
- Promote an agile DevOps culture: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including simulation model developers and plant performance analysts to streamline collaboration and improve the software delivery process.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues: Actively identify, debug, and resolve technical issues related to the application, infrastructure, and deployment pipelines effectively and efficiently.
As we strive to find the best fit for this position, we are seeking individuals with a minimum level of experience, training, and qualification. But we'll let you in on a secret: there's no such thing as the 'perfect' candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.
Key Selection Criteria For This Role Are
- Experience working in an Agile development environment across the full software development lifecycle.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure services (App Services, VMs, Azure SQL Database, Azure Active Directory) and cloud-based architectures.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as YAML, PowerShell, Bash, .NET, Java, and Python.
- Expertise in CI/CD tools, particularly Azure DevOps (Pipelines, Repos, Boards); experience with Jenkins advantageous.
- Solid understanding of Git version control and configuration management processes, including linking to CMDB systems.
- Demonstrated experience in software verification, validation, and QA in high-integrity industries; familiarity with nuclear QA standards advantageous.
- Hands-on experience in dynamic modelling and simulation (e.g., Matlab, Simulink) and applying simulation for analysis; knowledge of control systems design beneficial.
- Degree-qualified in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Computational Science, with proven experience in software development and Azure.
