About the business unit 

Mott MacDonald's Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit delivers both project, programme and commercial management (PPCM) services and advisory solutions across the built environment, defence, energy, water, environmental, transportation, health and care sectors. We deliver tailored solutions that directly address our clients' key challenges, combining our world-leading project expertise with unrivalled programme delivery capabilities and advisory services.

APD delivers services to projects ranging in scale and complexity up to £20bn, through the technical disciplines of programme management, project management, project controls, scheduling, cost management, estimating, infrastructure finance, management consulting, digital consulting and education, health and care management.

About the role

This role is within our Management Consulting arm of the business known as Strategic Advisory. Client organisations face increasingly complex and interconnected challenges throughout their business, and our range of strategic advisory capabilities help executive teams to solve these challenges.

Our Economics and Business Case team are seeking a motivated graduate economist to join our talented and growing team in the UK. The successful candidate will have some experience within a similar role and will be actively involved in the delivery of economics and business case services across a range of projects.

We are looking for a dynamic and creative person eager to progress their career and support clients with their funding and financing challenges.

The role will be varied in terms of responsibilities, ranging from supporting the team on internal tasks or business development activities, to graduate support on project delivery.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Support the delivery of business case and economics projects
  • Building financial models within MS Excel
  • Contribute to successful delivery of projects to quality, time and budget requirements
  • Assist senior staff in providing strategic advice to clients with regard their funding and financing options
  • Report writing, and supported to present final findings to clients
  • Professional excellence – be actively involved in the Strategy and Transformation global practice
  • Support preparation of bid submissions
  • Demonstrate our PRIDE values in everything you do
  • Contribute energy and proactivity to a positive, engaging and growing team

Candidate specification:

Essential: 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate at all levels both within the company, and with client organisations
  • Experience working in client-facing roles with well developing consulting skills
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic, with the ability to work as part of a team and independently as required
  • Facilitation and communication skills to clearly articulate messages to a wide variety of audiences
  • Proficiency in Economics and Business Cases, either through a degree certification or through related project experience
  • Degree or Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline

Desirable:

  • 'Better Business Case' Trained, or a desire to work towards BBC accreditation
  • UK Government security clearance
  • Capacity for flexible delivery – ability to think strategically 'big picture' as well a deliver on short-term tasks
