What's the job?

The Curriculum Developer (Data Apprenticeships) will design, develop, and maintain high-quality, industry-aligned curriculum content across Baltic's Data apprenticeship programmes - Level 3 Data Technician, Level 4 Data Analyst, and Level 5 Data Engineer.

This role is responsible for creating structured, engaging curriculum materials that align to apprenticeship standards, EPA requirements, and employer needs. Working closely with Curriculum & Product Managers, Instructional Designers, and Delivery Coaches, you'll ensure our programmes remain current, compliant, and deliver exceptional learning experiences.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience in data, digital, or technical education, who can translate complex technical concepts into accessible and progressive learning content that develops real-world data skills.

Role Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

1. Curriculum Design & Development

  • Design and update curriculum proposals, Schemes of Work, lesson plans and timetables across the Level 3–5 Data apprenticeship programmes.
  • Translate apprenticeship standards and KSBs into clear learning outcomes and module outlines.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Designers to produce engaging self-study materials, delivery slides, and project briefs.
  • Ensure alignment to EPA plans, Ofsted expectations, and internal curriculum quality standards.

2. Curriculum Quality & Technical Accuracy 

  • Ensure all content is technically correct, up to date, and pedagogically sound.
  • Research and integrate emerging tools, trends, and technologies across data engineering, analytics, and cloud ecosystems.
  • Work with internal teams to review content for accessibility, inclusivity, and learner experience.

3. Curriculum Improvement & Maintenance 

  • Manage curriculum updates based on feedback from delivery, learners, and employers.
  • Maintain accurate version control and documentation for all curriculum content.
  • Contribute to curriculum quality assurance reviews and internal evaluation processes.

4. Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing 

  • Work collaboratively with the Data & AI Curriculum & Product Manager to maintain programme direction and alignment.
  • Partner with Digital Trainers and Delivery Coaches to gather feedback and ensure practical relevance.
  • Share curriculum updates and support training for new or refreshed materials.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience developing or maintaining Data or Digital apprenticeship curriculum (Levels 3–5) or equivalent technical training programmes.
  • Strong understanding of data fundamentals, including Python, SQL, data modelling, analytics, and cloud concepts.
  • Experience working with apprenticeship standards, KSB mapping, and EPA alignment.
  • Excellent curriculum writing and documentation skills, with a focus on clarity and structure.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to liaise effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • High attention to detail, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality across all materials.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Microsoft Fabric/Azure environments.
  • Experience in instructional design, educational content creation, or training delivery.
  • Knowledge of Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework (EIF) and apprenticeship quality processes.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in Data, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
