About this RoleWe are looking for a motivated and passionate individual to join our team as a Pastoral Lead, providing and coordinating emotional support for our pupils. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day to day running of our happy and successful school. As a school, we endeavor to make a real difference to the lives of the children within our care. The culture in school is one of high expectations and aspiration for all. The successful candidate will be required to effectively support the emotional needs of pupils, enabling them to access all curriculum areas and make good progress. This support may be provided by the individual or may be sought from external agencies.
Purpose of the post:
To manage attendance, pastoral and welfare issues, including line managing the induction of new arrivals.
To support and work with pupils and families to maximise learning for individual pupils.
To work alongside other members of the pastoral team to promote and maintain positive behaviour.
Responsibilities of the post:
To promote the Academy's Core Beliefs.
To contribute to the Academy's whole school approach of overcoming obstacles to learning and improving pupil participation in whole school life and beyond.
Reporting to:
Headteacher & Deputy Headteacher. These will be achieved by:
Attendance:
Leading on all attendance related issues, including to:
- Update the attendance policy according to the evolving needs of the Academy and communicating this with all stakeholders.
- Advise and assist parents/carers to maintain regular school attendance of their children;
- Put into place initiatives to improve/maintain attendance, monitor impact, evaluating and amending as necessary. ie the walking bus…bedtime routine workshops…
- Communicate clearly to parents/carers the attendance procedures and expectations of the school;
- Collect and analyse attendance data to enable identification and tracking of pupil attendance;
- Quality assure the inputting of daily attendance data onto Arbor;
- Monitor and ensure that correct attendance codes are entered in class registers and on Arbor;
- Accurately minute meetings (and where relevant, telephone conversations) with parents/carers, recording them on CPOMs;
- Monitor and track whole school attendance and punctuality and intervene where appropriate;
- Produce termly reports for the Headteacher and Governing Body.
- Monitor and track the attendance of groups of pupils, particularly those designated as 'disadvantaged';
- Develop and maintain links with parents/children and the local authority's Children Missing Education and Welfare Service;
- Schedule and attend school-based meetings with parents/carers as necessary;
- Celebrate attendance improvements and successes leading on an attendance reward system.
- Carry out appropriate administrative duties as required by the Head of School.
Pastoral/Welfare Support:
Manage pastoral and welfare issues, including:
- Liaise with parents regarding health, hygiene, mental health and well-being issues.
- Signpost parents to external agencies, such as the school nurse
- Meet and greet pupils, particularly those who are vulnerable
- Represent the school at Early Help, Child Protection and Child in Need Family Support Meetings.
- Deliver enrichment/extra-curricular activities directed towards vulnerable pupils
Admissions:
Manage all admissions to the school including directing Admin staff, providing information to the inclusion team and SLT. Duties include managing,
- Induction of new arrivals as per the school New Arrivals Policy,
- Timely contact with parents in the first instance to arrange an induction programme within 10 days of the school receiving notification from the LA admissions
- Full, relevant data from families is obtained to assist in early, accurate assessment and early, tailored provision. Data is shared with class teachers and then filed effectively and can be quickly located for future reference.
- Management of the content of pupil files transferred from previous school and ensure that relevant information is shared to enable others in school to fulfil their duties
- Contact with families daily during the first few weeks and regularly during the first term.
- Producing related data for SLT, half termly, and on request.
Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead:
To be the deputy designated Person for child protection and carryout all duties associated with this post, including:
- Maintaining an up-to-date safeguarding qualification.
- Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge in safeguarding legislation and good practice through attendance at Trust and LA networks and conferences.
- Under the direction of the Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensure that all other members of staff, including supply staff, receive training and updates in safeguarding issues and follow The Academy's policy for Child Protection.
- Being alert to the symptoms of abuse.
- Receiving disclosures from staff, pupils and others.
Meeting with parents, where appropriate/necessary to express concerns where a referral is not considered necessary at that point.
- Making referral about actual or suspected abuse.
- Informing parents/carers about the above, where appropriate.
- Liaising with Children's Services after the initial referral is made.
- Attending and contributing to Child Protection case conferences.
- Monitoring pupils subject to referrals or on the 'at risk' register. Providing ongoing support to the same.
- Maintain an updated knowledge of Right Help; Right Time and other local policies and practices
- Completing and submitting Request for Support / Early Help referrals.
Management of Behaviour:
To Support other members of the pastoral team (especially at times of high need) to:
- Promote positive behaviour throughout school
- Maintain good behaviour at playtime and lunchtime and deal with inappropriate behaviour as per the school Behaviour Policy
- Undertake investigations into reported misbehaviour/incidents and implement sanctions according to school policy
- Lead social skills groups at playtime/lunchtime with identified pupils when necessary
- Maintain accurate records by recording information on school systems
- Place pupils on report and monitor when necessary
- Support the re-integration of pupils on return to school from exclusion
- Support identified pupils in class with learning
- Deal with incidents throughout the day as necessary
- Contribute to the recording, investigation and monitoring of bullying
- To develop positive relationships with parents, liaising with parents regarding disciplinary.
General Duties:
- To assist in the recording & monitoring of pupil progress, problems and development needs
- To undertake routine filing and admin tasks
- To provide information to SLT/teachers as appropriate, to enable them to carry out their role
- To be responsible for health and safety of self and others and adhere to the school health and safety policy and procedures
