Data & Analytics Test Engineer

Start: ASAP (December)

Duration: 6 months+

Location: Central London (1-day per week)

Rate: £350 per day (OUTSIDE IR35)

We are seeking an experienced Data & Analytics Test Engineer to ensure high-quality testing of applications, reports, data extracts, and data pipelines within our Technology & Data function. The role involves delivering robust unit, system, and user acceptance testing aligned to the Data & Analytics Test Strategy within an agile environment.

Responsibilities

  • Define test requirements from project documentation and business needs.
  • Design, automate, and execute tests, leading a test-first development approach for ETL/ELT, data warehouse solutions, and BI/visualisation outputs.
  • Work with Business Analysts and stakeholders to secure sign-off based on comprehensive test results.
  • Troubleshoot issues, raise and track defects, retest fixes, and escalate risks when needed.
  • Maintain and evolve the long-term Data & Analytics Test Strategy.
  • Contribute to agile ceremonies, produce test documentation, and support planning/estimations.
  • Lead development of automated regression suites integrated into CI processes.
  • Ensure all solutions comply with data protection, privacy and data governance standards.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong background in functional, system, acceptance and automated testing.
  • Experience with agile delivery, test automation and CI/CD.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT, data warehousing, BI, big data, cloud and testing methodologies (V-Model, Waterfall, Agile).
  • Advanced SQL (T-SQL or PL/SQL); APS knowledge desirable.
  • Proficient with automation tools (Microsoft Test, NUnit, SpecFlow, Selenium, Coded UI, DBFit).
  • Skilled in Visual Studio ALM/TFS or HP ALM.
  • Ability to write complex queries and use scripting languages (C#, PowerShell, JavaScript).
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
