Senior Domestic Assistant/Laundry Assistant

As a Senior Domestic Assistant / Laundry Assistant at St. Anne's Nursing Home, your primary responsibility is to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation throughout the facility. In addition to performing domestic and laundry duties, you will oversee and support other members of the domestic and laundry team, helping to coordinate workloads, maintain high standards, and contribute to the overall comfort and well-being of our residents.
Two references, a DBS, and proof of right to work are required.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision
- Oversee the daily work of domestic and laundry staff, ensuring all areas and tasks are completed to the required standards.
- Allocate duties and organise cleaning and laundry schedules.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to the domestic team, ensuring compliance with health and safety and infection control procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections across the home and address areas requiring improvement.
- Report staffing or performance concerns to the Nurse in Charge, Manager, or Proprietor.
Cleaning and Housekeeping
- Perform regular cleaning duties throughout the home, including corridors, lounges, bedrooms, bathrooms, and toilets.
- Pay close attention to detail in residents' rooms, respecting privacy and dignity at all times.
- Ensure all areas remain clean, tidy, and fully stocked with necessary supplies.
Laundry Duties
- Oversee and participate in the washing, drying, ironing, and distribution of residents' clothing and household linen.
- Ensure the laundry area is kept clean, organised, and compliant with infection control standards.
- Monitor laundry equipment and report faults or maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensure residents' clothing is clearly labelled and returned to the correct individual.
Stock Replenishment
- Check and replenish cleaning and hygiene supplies twice daily — in the morning and before the end of your shift.
- Maintain accurate stock levels and monitor usage to prevent shortages.
- Report any supply issues or requirements to the Nurse in Charge, Manager, or Proprietor.
Equipment Maintenance
- Ensure all domestic and laundry equipment is properly cleaned, maintained, and stored.
- Carry out and oversee regular checks to ensure all machinery and tools are functioning correctly.
- Report any equipment concerns promptly to the appropriate personnel.
Health and Safety Compliance
- Lead by example in adhering to health and safety regulations and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) guidelines.
- Ensure all domestic and laundry staff follow infection prevention and control procedures.
- Attend mandatory training to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Property and Policy Compliance
- Safeguard residents' belongings and ensure their proper handling.
- Ensure the domestic team understands and follows St. Anne's Nursing Home policies and procedures.
- Report any issues relating to furnishings, hygiene, or equipment to the relevant staff.
Fire Safety
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the home's fire safety rules and procedures.
- Ensure domestic staff attend fire safety training and understand evacuation processes.
Incident Reporting
- Promptly report accidents, incidents, or near misses to the Nurse in Charge, Manager, or Proprietor.
- Support team members in accurate and timely reporting.
- Escalate complaints or concerns raised by residents, visitors, or staff.
Training and Development
- Attend relevant training sessions and assist with the orientation and development of new domestic staff.
- Stay up to date with best practices in housekeeping, infection control, and laundry operations.
Confidentiality and Professionalism
- Maintain confidentiality regarding residents' personal information.
- Interact with residents, visitors, and colleagues respectfully, courteously, and professionally.
- Promote a positive working atmosphere within the domestic team.
Additional Duties
- Assist with any other tasks necessary to ensure the smooth running of St. Anne's Nursing Home.
- Support management in upholding consistent standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and resident safety.
Performance Review
- Regularly review and update your responsibilities in line with the evolving needs of St. Anne's Nursing Home.
- Participate in performance reviews and team meetings to support continuous improvement.
