Job Title: Senior Support Worker – Children's Home
Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire
Salary: £32,000 – £35,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Contract Type: Permanent
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Support Worker to join our friendly team within a children's residential home based in Hitchin.
As a Senior Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes and develop life skills, while also leading and motivating a team of Support Workers to deliver the highest standard of care.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for supporting children and young people in a nurturing and therapeutic environment, who is also looking to take the next step in their career.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day care and support for children and young people in accordance with their individual care plans.
- Lead shifts and ensure smooth running of the home in the absence of senior management.
- Support, mentor, and supervise other Support Workers.
- Promote a safe, positive, and nurturing environment where young people can thrive.
- Encourage independence, education, and emotional wellbeing.
- Ensure compliance with Ofsted and Children's Homes Regulations.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation.
- Actively contribute to team meetings and care planning.
Requirements
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – essential.
- Previous experience working in a children's residential home (minimum 1–2 years preferred).
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and care standards.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
- Compassionate, resilient, and committed to making a difference in young people's lives.
