Your New Role…

CNN Sports is a round-the-clock, global operation and this role is a key part of our success. The international sports writer will work with the international sports editor to be the point writer of CNN Sports' online coverage during the morning hours and helps set the agenda for the day.

You'll be a strong collaborator, able to work across multiple teams while ensuring our coverage is well-rounded and capturing the latest news of the day. Working closely with the international sports editor, you will be a key player in making sure the US-based operation hits the ground running each day. In this role you will not only focus on daily stories but will come up with enterprise story ideas that will fascinate our readers who are interested in sports from around the world. You will also be tasked with being the main writer on live coverage of international sporting events

Your Role Accountabilities…

• Work with the international sports editor, supervising editor for sports news and the VP of sports programming to deliver high-quality, in-depth stories from across the sporting world 

• Bring a strong level of expertise on the sporting landscape that results in fascinating stories that engage CNN's audience 

• Work closely with CNN Sports' anchors and correspondents on coordinating story assignments and delivering content for all platforms 

• Write scripts for digital videos, including long- and short-form formats 

• Contribute framing and analysis for CNN Sports coverage  

• Travel to major sports events when requested 

• Collaborate with sports colleagues across WBD networks, including TNT, Eurosport and others. 

• Write for CNN's live stories and other live coverage of major sporting events (may include night and weekend hours) 

Qualifications & Experience…

• Significant experience in journalism 

• A demonstrated expertise of American and international sports 

• A track record of delivering feature stories that capture the attention of readers 

• Strong communication and collaboration skills 

• Ability to work late nights and weekends as needed 

• Ability to travel as needed

Although you will be hired by Warner Bros. Discovery, upon the planned separation in 2026, your employment likely will transition to Discovery Global. Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
