HSBC's Infrastructure Finance (HIF) Group is responsible for infrastructure and export financings, providing a full suite of services to corporates, financial sponsors in a number of sectors, including Power & Utilities, Energy, Renewables, Digital & Telecoms, Transport, Logistics, Support Services, ESG and Carbon Neutral assets. The team provides a single point for clients to access advice on financings, capital structure and debt capital markets, as well as associated execution of mandates. HIF is playing a critical role in supporting and financing the energy transition for our clients.
Due to growth and internal movements, we have expanded the Infrastructure Finance team in Sydney and have opportunities at both Director and Vice President level.
In this unique role as a Vice President based in Sydney, you will support a Director to drive the origination and execution of transactions in the infrastructure finance business. In doing so, you will have involvement in the entire range of internal and external related processes including new transaction assessment, preparation and presentation of internal requests, preparation and presentation of client proposals, as well as executive aspects related to the management of existing portfolio assets through ongoing credit analysis and transaction management support.
You will be a self-starter with a genuine interest in this sector, who enjoys being part of a collaborative high performing team. In addition to your technical skills, your ability to build strong stakeholder relationships will be key to this role.
This specialised role will give you the opportunity to develop your career in an area of business which is highly relevant in a global context, resulting in meaningful work in the areas of acquisition finance, and large infrastructure projects where there is a need for debt finance. As part of this team, you will have genuine involvement and exposure to a range of transactions, high profile deals and the opportunity to further develop your origination skills in an international banking environment.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the team with the delivery of business targets through supporting and leading the origination and execution of transactions.
- Undertaking modelling, due diligence, financial and credit analysis of transactions and transaction opportunities.
- Working, under supervision of deal directors, and with assistance from analysts and associates on the internal approval process through preparation of business and credit papers as part of capital allocation and credit process
- Sector and market research and summaries for clients and internally as well as preparation of marketing material for clients.
- Engaging with internal, and to some extent external stakeholders as part of the process of transaction origination and execution.
- Working closely with internal functions, such as credit, compliance and others, as well as product partners to maximise increased product penetration.
- Understanding and ensuring compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures with a focus on Global Standards including conduct, AML & Sanctions that apply to the business in which the jobholder is involved.
- Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Significant experience in infrastructure finance or a closely related field such as debt advisory, structured finance, project finance, ratings advisory and/or other lending products, coupled with a strong understanding of the financial markets, gained in a corporate banking, infrastructure finance or professional services organisation.
- Proven track record of originating, structuring, and executing complex transactions in the infrastructure and energy sectors.
- Capacity to execute transactions end-to-end with minor supervision and able to delegate effectively.
- In-depth knowledge of financing documentation relating to non-recourse transactions.
- Understanding of sustainable finance principles, green loans, social loans and sustainability-linked loans.
- In depth knowledge of the Australian market, including key players, trends, and regulatory landscape.
- Experience in the processes undertaken for a bond issuance, acquisition financing, export finance, project finance and/or refinancing.
- Excellent client relationship management skills, with the ability to understand clients' needs and provide tailored solutions.
- High levels of motivation and a strong work ethic underpinned by an interest and passion for the sector.
- Strong organisational and project management skills with ability to multitask, schedule time effectively and digest and convey complex information in an understandable and succinct story.
- A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field; a master's degree or professional qualification (e.g., CFA, MBA) is desirable.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian or New Zealand PR/Citizenship, or who can show they currently have unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
