Reports to: Head Chef / Sous Chef

Contract: Fixed-Term, Until January 1st

Hours: Full-Time/Part-Time, Shifts as Required

Job Overview:

The Old Ship Hotel is looking for an enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our team for the busy Christmas season. This is a fantastic opportunity for a budding chef to gain hands-on experience in a professional kitchen, working alongside a talented team during one of the busiest times of the year. You will play a key role in supporting kitchen operations, preparing dishes to our high standards, and ensuring guests enjoy a memorable dining experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation: Assist in the preparation of ingredients and dishes under the supervision of senior chefs, following hotel standards and recipes.
  • Station Assistance: Support various kitchen sections as needed, ensuring readiness for service and helping maintain efficient workflow during peak hours.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that dishes are prepared to the required quality and presentation, checking for taste, texture, and appearance.
  • Cleaning & Hygiene: Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to health and safety standards and assisting with end-of-shift cleaning tasks.
  • Learning & Development: Take advantage of this opportunity to learn from experienced chefs, gaining skills in food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a kitchen environment is desirable but not required; a passion for food and cooking is essential.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high culinary standards.
  • Good organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and follow instructions accurately.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including holidays, Christmas, and New Year's Eve.

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Pay: £13.26 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week
