We are looking for an experienced and engaging Project Archivist who can work with Rotherham Archives and Local Studies on a cataloguing project funded by an Archives Revealed grant.
This is a wonderful opportunity to lead on the 'Boroughing In: Cataloguing Place & Identity in Rotherham' project. The yearlong project will catalogue uncatalogued portions of the local authority records including Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and identified district councils and urban councils. These form the heart of Rotherham's collective story as a town, municipal borough, county borough, and several municipal and urban district councils which have been unified into a metropolitan district council since the 1970's. These aren't just local authority records. They reflect the ambitions, hopes, plans, setbacks and lessons learned in a region marked by constant evolution, spanning 1792 to the present day. The project will make these collections accessible to the public for the first time and provide opportunities for engagement and collection development.
The Project Archivist will become part of the Archives and Local Studies team, working alongside the service Archivist. They will recruit and manage a group of cataloguing volunteers who will support them to deliver the project within the timescales. They will also collaborate with Rotherham Museums, Arts and Heritage colleagues to develop engagement opportunities using the collections.
Interviews are expected to take place on w/c 5 January 2026 at Clifton Park Museum.
To find out more information about the role, please contact Lisa Howarth, Museum, Arts and Heritage Manger or
This post will have access to the Public Services Network, if successful you will be required to apply for a disclosure of criminal records check at the Basic level (unspent criminal convictions).
