Who are we?

Established in 1999, Modern Networks is the leading specialist provider of managed IT and telecom services to the UK's commercial & retail property sector. We are also an independent Internet Service Provider (ISP).

This role sits within our Stafford based Group Company, Wave 9 Managed Services Limited, who are a specialist telecommunications and internet service provider focused on delivering high-quality internet and internet safety solutions to the UK Education sector. As part of a small and dynamic team, we pride ourselves on our customer-first approach, strong relationships, and seamless service delivery.

What will I be doing?

As our Finance and Operations Manager, you'll drive financial excellence and operational efficiency while serving as the vital link between our sales team, project office, and the wider group finance function.

This hands-on role suits a dynamic finance professional seeking broader exposure to the IT sector and a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. You'll work closely with senior leaders and group finance to manage day-to-day financial operations, support strategic planning, and oversee post-sales activities. A core focus will be collaborating to further develop our systems and processes—enhancing efficiency and building on our strong record of customer satisfaction.

Financial Operations

  • Providing end to end finance support to the Wave 9 sales and project teams.
  • Production of Management Accounts including analyses of explanation of key variances and trends identified
  • Ownership of annual financial budget preparation
  • Bank Reconciliations
  • Fixed Asset Processing
  • Deferred Revenue / Journal Processing

Post-Sales and Client Support

  • Processing sales orders and ensuring all relevant documentation from suppliers and customers is in place.
  • Preparing the orders for handover into the project office and on completion, raising sales invoices.
  • Gathering, recording, and maintaining customer contact information.
  • Assisting with customer and billing queries where appropriate.
  • Assisting with renewal quotes and progressing prior to the contract expiry.

Operational Support

  • Supporting pipeline and forecast management, updating opportunities with progress to the point of sale.
  • Assisting with renewal quotes and progressing prior to the contract expiry.
  • Manage procurement, supplier payments and office operational finances.
  • Contribute to internal compliance, documentation and workflow improvements.

What are we looking for?

  • Part or full qualification of a recognised Accountancy accreditation, preferably ACCA, CIMA or ACA
  • At least 3 years working in a Finance team, including work on month end accounts and an understanding of trial balance, sales ledger and purchase ledger processes
  • Experience of engaging with third party advisers including insurance and auditors
  • Experience of working with ERP and CRM systems. HubSpot CRM and Xero Accounts would be advantageous.
  • Clear communicator who enjoys working across teams and directly with clients.
  • Enjoys variety and problem-solving across both finance and operations.
  • Hands-on, proactive, and reliable — a "doer" who gets things done.
