Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our Practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a professional and compassionate manner, ensuring accurate lab results and patient safety. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong background in medical procedures and laboratory practices to contribute to patient care within a hospital or clinical setting. Candidates with hospital experience and a solid understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology will be highly valued.
Duties
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection using aseptic techniques to ensure sample integrity and patient safety
- Prepare patients for blood tests by explaining procedures clearly and reassuring them to reduce anxiety
- Label specimens accurately and ensure proper handling and transportation to the laboratory
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols, including aseptic technique during sample collection
- Assist with catheterisation procedures when required, following established guidelines
- Monitor patients during procedures, providing basic life support if necessary, especially in paediatric cases
- Maintain cleanliness of the work area and sterilise equipment regularly
- Document all procedures accurately within patient records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure timely processing of samples and accurate test results
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Phlebotomist within a hospital or clinical environment is preferred
- Certification in Phlebotomy recognised by relevant health authorities is highly desirable
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology related to blood collection sites and processes
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures, medical terminology, and aseptic techniques
- Experience with catheterisation procedures is advantageous
- Basic life support (BLS) certification is essential for patient safety during procedures
- Ability to work effectively with diverse patient groups, including paediatrics, demonstrating compassion and professionalism
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in specimen handling and documentation
