Do you want an exciting opportunity to join the small, friendly, Water Scarcity and Coastal Erosion team in Environmental Quality and Resilience Division?
The Division works across a number of climate change adaptation and environmental issues to protect and improve Scotland's environment for the resilience and well-being of Scotland's people and places.
The unit consists of two teams working together: Flood Risk Management Team and the Water Scarcity and Coastal Erosion Team (this post). This post provides the opportunity to take forward work with major policy implications for Scotland in the face of the impacts of climate change.
The majority of this post is a policy role working closely with the Coastal Adaptation Senior Policy Manager and the wider team, national bodies, academics and Local Authorities to progress work on coastal erosion and coastal change adaptation that has the potential to make a real difference for coastal communities in Scotland.
This position will also act as Business Continuity Liasion Officer (BCLO) forEnvironmental Quality & Resilience Division. Each unit in the division will have their own purchaser and approver but as BCLO you will support them and division wide work. This will include working directly with the deputy director and supporting division finance.
Responsibilities- Work on Coastal Erosion and Coastal Change Adaptation policy, working collaboratively, constructively and proactively with colleagues across Scottish Government, Dynamic Coast, Local Authorities, NatureScot, SEPA and wider stakeholders to deliver policy objectives.
- Act as BCLO for the division – including supporting the deputy director with monthly monitoring, expenditure analysis journal requests and keeping Bud1 up-to-date.
- Support distribution of coastal change adaptation funds to local authorities, securing best use of available resources, through the Coastal Change Adaptation Advisory Group through being secretariat.
- Respond to correspondence on Coastal Erosion - while using awareness to escalate sensitive correspondence to colleagues as appropriate.
- Work with the team to ensure Ministers and senior officials are provided with high quality, evidence based, written and oral briefing – including leading on initial drafting of FMQs and PQs.
- Support development and maintenance of constructive relationships with external stakeholders, including supporting webinar planning with Verture.
- Manage core brief documentation and support team performance monitoring via a team task tracker.
- Support work to progress coastal LIDAR remote sensing surveys.
